Cetho Temple is a Javanese-Hindu Temple that was built around the 15th century on a mountainside, Mount Lawu. To get to the top of this temple, one must be physically capable of climbing up six (6) flights of stair steps up the side of this mountain. The stone steps leading up to the top of the temple are in very good condition, so most people should be to make it up to the top of the temple without much difficulty.
For those who do make it up to the top level of the stair steps up, they will be rewarded with stunning views of both the lower levels of the temple and of the beautiful valley below.

We traveled Cetho (also spelled as Ceto) temple from Yogyakarta with a hired driver (for about 700k IDR for 10h). The journey took about 3h. The last hour was up the hill with narrow and wavy road that was quite scary at times. But the sceneries up the mountain were quite breathtaking with tea plantation being the start of the sight.
The entrance fees if I remember correctly were 25k IDR (+ parking fess 5 or 10k IDR) and a sarong is required. I used my long scarf but one can rent a sarong (close by the entrance) with optional donations.
No much information is available online about this Hindu temple and nothing is basically written on the site. But the temple is quite unique with the many aligned gates up the mountain + views being breathtaking. Very instagramable!
In total we spend about 1h there. In comparison to Sukuh temple Cetho is way more preserved with better view.

Amazing temple. Very similar to Myan temples. Has many erotic statues. From the car park to the temple is all up hill. Must wear the traditional sarong before entering.

After a long drive through the hills, eventually arrived at Candi Cetho. The hindu temple (1495m) is located on the same mountain range as Mt Lawu, a star to volcano.

Along the way, many folks are walking behind their vehicles which were too heavy to be driven up the slopes. So, if you are a group in a SUV, MPV, likely the car will not be able to ascend the steep slopes.!...

Admission to the Candi premises, 25k if you are a foreign visitor. Entering the temple, all will be directed to a hut to collect a loaned Sarong/sash to wear it into the temple. Voluntary donation for the sarong. Upon exit, deposit the sarong into a basket.

There are some steep steps to negotiate whilst making your way to the top of the Candi, a good way to work out.

Tea plantations are littled along the way, and there are many scenic viewpoints, so drive carefully. Look out for the road trip convoys of motorbikes.

Although located not far from Sukuh temple, the road to get there is not for the faint-of-hearts. The road was narrow with steep cliffs on one side. It is also situated on very high elevation, higher than Sukuh temple so the air definitely felt more fresh and clean. The Cetho temple is still used as a place of worship for the Hindus so the top most part of the temple is forbidden for tourists.. strictly for praying only.

As Solo is stooped in History both ancient and modern. this Hindu Temple is a fantastic place to visit, high on hilly slopes and very cool is situated a Hindu Candi dedicated to Ciwa, was originally bigger was downsized long ago. there are several steps so not for the weak or elderly. Just a good Aura and place to be at peace with all. A must see better then Suku I feel. Anyway go discover for yourselves and make up your own ideas...enjoy

If you have an interest in old temples or Hindu culture, especially the origins of Hindu culture in Indonesia, then I thoroughly recommend a visit to this temple.

Try to avoid weekends, as the area and access roads can be quite busy.

The temple itself is not expensive to visit. It has some very unique architecture and the astute explorer will relish the location.

There is another smaller temple, perhaps older, about 500 metres away on the next ridge. Also worth a brief visit.

Avoid heels or thongs for your feet. Many steps to explore Candi Cetho, and the track to the nearby temple is a littke rough in places
