    Beautiful and breathtaking views
Went to visit this temple. Was pleasantly surprised to find dancers doing a traditional Sri Lankan dance for their independence day which was being filmed. The temple is at the top of a mountain and you have the most breathtaking views of Kandy and more. Do not miss a visit to this temple. There is also no entrance fee as it's free.

We visited this on a very hot day. Of course they insist on removing shoes but please be aware the steps (and there are lot) and the large open areas are made from granite.

Had we stopped and reflected, we would have turned back but no, not wishing to offend we carried on to the top. The heat was unbearable on our feet. I do not exagerate when I say I had blisters on the soles of my feet. My husband abadoned the no shoes rule and went down and got my sandles. So far we have not been struck down!!! I fully belive in respecting different cultures and beliefs but would have killed them to have set up a small stall selling socks?

We are quite cross with our tour guide for not advising us to take some socks with us on the day.

The priest had the cheek to ask us to put money in a plate that was already overflowing. We spent the money in a chenist instead as had to buy special blister plasters containing aloe vera.

Seriously, please do not take children who are not used to walking around bare footed.

There really should be signage advising of the danger.

It would be better to visit early morning or evening.

The temple was shining & was built spending millions of rupees! But...shame to say that NO sanitary facilities were provided for the guests!
It is called the "International Buddhist Center" but does not know how to welcome international travelers!
Me & my husband (Danish) visited during our latest holiday to Sri Lanka in Sep 2023. We both wanted to use the restrooms since we came from Colombo, so followed directions to the restrooms. There was a man standing on the way to the restrooms & collecting Rs.40 p/guest and directed us to the toilets! We both were shocked to see what sort of toilets provided!!!! There was not a single normal commode toilet with toilet paper but toilets with wholes (old type)! They are too full of water with water leaking from taps!
My husband said men's toilets were the worst!
Head Priest in the temple should be shamed, who thinks only of a shining temple & pays enormous money to keep it shining but doesn't care about guests' sanitary facilities! Top of all he called the temple as "International Buddhist Center" Perhaps he should be told the meaning of "international"!!!!

Not one single word written anywhere in English and nobody there to interpret, guide or explain

Looks beautiful, but not being able to understand any Sinhalese left me at quite a disadvantage. Shame

Can’t understand how it can be called ‘International’

If you are visiting Kandy, this temple is easily reachable along Kandy-Peradeniya road. The temple locates on top of the mountain, in breathtaking surroundings. The temple ground is adorned with flower plants and many statues of Lord Buddha and God Saman.
