Very expensive resort with a few ski slopes. Crowdy but beautiful! New ski equipment to rent, but super high deposit to put down to rent. Better to have your own equipment or walk around the resort to explore expensive shops and people with limited English skills to help you at the International resort.

I've skied all over Europe, and lived in China for nearly 15 years. China is a developing country where people are very unlikely for cultural reasons to criticise or complain, about something of poor quality or low standard.
This was why a few years ago I was amazed to ski at Wanlong resort. They said they had extensive ski runs and the approximately 500 meter vert where all true! Equipment was reasonable too.
This is my main gripe with Duolemeidi. It's all the crappiness that you'd expect from a Chinese resort, and absolutely doesn't stack up compared with Wanlong. There is basically only about 2 or 3 ways down Duolemeidi, and there is only about a 300 meter verical drop, I should have measured on my smartphone, but my hands where too cold in the -30c wind chill. The rental rossignol skis are horrible low end affairs and haven't seen any maintenance, the fact that the staff don't even know how to adjust a ski binding is a dead giveaway. The amazing pizza, I never saw any of that either. The chair lift whilst fairly quick has foot rests that are impossible to use unless you are under 5ft 8.
In short it's got about 20% of the groomers of Wanlong, and over about 2 thirds of the height with poor infrastructure. The only thing it does have is a terrain park, so it might be slightly better for snowboarders or people who like to ski backwards

We spent the day rocking the two major lifts at Duoleimeidi. The skiing was what you would expect from a tiny little resort. Not much snow to ride off the groomers. A few runs through the trees. There is one semi-steep slope that would be a blue anywhere in North America; I believe they call it a double-black. The board park, however, is awesome. Three series of kickers, ranging in size. Plenty of rails to ride and all of it is well-kept by an excellent foreign crew.
The lodge and rental accommodations are a total mess. If you want a bit more chill lunch experience, eat some noodles at the top lodge instead of the base.

Dolomiti Ski Resort near Chongli, Zhangjiakou is a smaller ski site in Hebei. It is in vicinity of its bigger neighbour Wan Long ski resort. It is pretty isolated from Chong Li; about 30min drive and perhaps too long to head out to Chong Li's restaurants in the evening. Note, in no place around here you will find any kind of apres ski. Dolomiti only has 1 ski lift and 2 tow lifts. Especially over public holidays it gets very crowded and ski lift queuing takes a while. Here are some ups and downs:
Positive:
- not too big ski resort with 100m from Dolomiti hotel to ski lift
- Full service and rent of all equipment
- Nice simple ski slopes for beginners and intermediate (don't recommend multi day stay for advanced skiers.
Negative:
Hotel
- simple hotel, functional, bit pricy at almost 600 RMB/night; put it in a category of a local 2 star and you won't spoil your expectations
- Slow service at check in and ski card service
- Restaurant food ok (hot pot, simple a la carte) with Northern Chinese service level; i.e. Don't expect 'please' and 'thank you'; 2 fire incidents when waitresses handled hot pot fire!! (A flame shot 1m up, luckily the kids were off the table already)
Ski:
- not family friendly: no space for kids to learn skiing/snowboarding; there is a small kids rubber tube area that cost 100 RMB extra
- Busy large ski landing area where most people hang out. It's busy and it's the place where ski coaches train beginners. (We found it not suitable and lines at lifts were really long over New Year Holidays)
- All slopes facing North, so some slope areas are icy. Slope preparation is ok but not stunning.
- 2 main slope areas on the top are not connected; the next ski resort here is several kilometers away and ski passes don't work elsewhere.
- Overall a very commercial operation where even table footballs rentals have a price and huskies pull kids for 128 RMB for a hundred meters on their collar (no harness)
- Lunch restaurant at base station is not ready to seat all those guest; food quality is not acceptable for a price of almost 100 RMB.
Conclusion: we returned here 8 years after our first visit. Still feels like a expensive youth hostel operation with one Leitner ski lift. Not impressed.

This resort really try to do it's best for you. They directly found staff that could help us in English (due to our broken Mandarin), we rented good equipment, had decent lessons. Italian inspired restaurant that was a bit slow on the Pizza in the rush hour, otherwise fine.
They actively promote safety at the resort so a helmet is a must in several of the lifts. The onsite Doctor is the first we have had to meet skiing in China but it was really assuring to have the wrists of the fallen snowboarder to be examined directly for us parents. We were 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 10 year old, we all agreed that it was a good week-end resort and we will come back next season.

By far the biggest field I have boarded thus far in China. Approx. 220kms from Beijing = far enough away to keep the BJ novices away.
It is not huge with 1 chair servicing 3 trails, a poma which can only be ridden if you have a helmet and a shorter poma for the novice. The bottom of the slope is nice and wide ensuring that you won't get too "involved" with the not so skilled. The chair seats 6 people so is good at moving people.
Food and drinks are available and are reasonably priced. They offer a range of decent Western type food as well as Chinese. Toilets were incredibly clean.
We had a fantastic time irrespective of there only being a handful of runs. Everything is well maintained and the staff really helpful, even if you can't speak much Chinese. We will be coming back on a regular basis next season.

This is not a resort, although you can stay the night. It is a well run, clean, new small ski slope. There is only on lift, but it is covered and seats 6. I never waited more than a couple of minutes.Â
Not a ton of powder since it is so dry in this part of the world, but it had snowed recently, so was acceptable.
Not a lot of options for true beginners, but good for upper intermediate because the slopes are steep. Longest run is 1500 m. There is a tree park with jumps, didn't try it because I'm not that good yet.Â
Branding is targeted to snowboarders, and benches at the top. Visibility the day I went was low and there are no signs, so be careful not to end up going right down the black. The slopes are wide though, and no cliffs to fall off.
2.5 hours from Beijing. You can take the bus for cheap or get your own driver for about 1000RMB.
If you find yourself in Beijing longing for a ride and with recent snow, worth a day trip. Not worth traveling internationally to visit.

We took the ski resort shuttle bus from BJ to resort and back during the wknd (130RMB pp). Each way was approximately 4-4.5hrs (depending on traffic). There is a bathroom stop along each way for about 5-10mins. The bus was pretty packed and the seats were incredibly tight, with very little leg room for anyone over 175cm or 5'9.
Upon arrival, we stayed at the onsite ski resort hotel (approx 450RMB for king size bed). Room was good sized. Bed was new and very comfortable. Room looked decently clean and even had a mini kitchen with electric stove. The only problem was the room smelled like it was recently renovated or re-painted or re-wall papered or something. The smell was pretty bad and probably toxic so we had to keep the window slightly open throughout the night. Room was also a bit on the warm side and thermostat didn't seem to work. Telephone also didn't work but we didn't bother having it fixed by hotel.
We paid in cash so had to leave a deposit for our stay. At checkout, the hotel front desk handed me a 50 kaui bill (I always ask for my 50 and 100 kaui bills to pass through the money counter machine before given back to me). The 50 kaui didnt pass the machine bc it was probably a counterfeit. The front desk woman gave me an annoyed look when I asked her to pass the 50 through the machine and then looked annoyed again when it didn't pass and i asked for two 20s and a 10 instead. Lesson here? ALWAYS have your 50s and 100s passed through the money counter machines in china whenever possible (especially bc ski resorts and hotels will require hefty cash deposits).
We skiied for a full day. There is only one chair lift. It seats 6 ppl and fairly fast. One of the best chair lifts I've seen in china. Not a lot of skiiers so no lines. The sole lift gets you to the top of the hill and from there you have three runs. Two are tagged as intermediate and one as advance. The advance run is only sort of advance at the last 100 meters or so. The snow quality was actually surprisingly decent considering we went during first wknd of march. It even snowed a little and the scenery along the runs was pretty charming (unlike the typical industrial and barren views on top of other ski resorts around beijing city). We had very little sun that day and with the light flurries, visibility was rather poor. Almost a white/grey-out type of situation and esp at the hill top, resulting in little visibility beyond 30 meters at times.
Other than the three runs mentioned above, i think there were also 2 or so additional intermediate runs accessible by drag lifts at a near by hill top. Those runs are not as long but not having a chair lift was kind of annoying since its always nice to sit and rest your legs btw runs. Naturally, very few ppl utilize these runs and most stuck with the runs accessible by lift. The resort should really built another chair lift. Resort best suited for those with own car and intermediate level skier. Not rly worth the money and long trip if only a beginner (stick with nanshan or some other local BJ resort) or seasoned skier (beidahu or yabuli - never been to wanlong so can't comment if that's a better option).
This resort is good for half or full day of skiing. Despite the actual distance btw BJ and resort being 250KM or so, It is still pretty out of the way from BJ if you do not have your own car. Expect actual travel time each way to exceed 4hrs if travelling via bus (longer if via train).

Ok for the beginners, ONE pretty modern chair lift.
Chaotic and complicated check-in procedures with a variety of prices and discounts. Reserving for the next day will give you the VIP rebate.
Good pizza restaurant (make sure you real get your order, better to wait next to the cashier for it).
