Aug 2023 • Family
Traveling with 3 kids (16/13/8)
The hike is great for families (even with younger children)
It took us 2 hours round trip from the parking area.
The path is well maintained, goes up and down on both sides of the gorge.
4 € for adult, 3 for kids plus parking fee ( money well spent on trail maintenance)
Highly recommended though it was more crowded than expected (the parking lot was full at noon time)

Beauty place above Bohinj lake. Little but wild Mostnica river flow bites to gorge. You can visit only a small part of this beautiful nature or you can continue from Mostnica gorge over alps valley to waterfall Mostnica. On a route back you will choose trek other site Mostnica gorge.

This tour is perfect for the whole family. You can start at the parking lot in Stara Fužina or drive to Voje Mountain Hut (Planinska kiča pri Vojah) or Beggar's Bridge (Beraški most) for a closer approach to Mostnica Waterfall. However, if you choose to walk, you'll experience the breathtaking Mostnica gorge and the charming Voje valley surrounded by mountains, cottages, trees, cows, and horses. Don't forget to visit Snack Bar Slap Voje for a taste of local treats before reaching the majestic Mostnica waterfall.

We had a beautiful day out hiking around Mostnica gorge and waterfall. The gorge is very scenic and naturally beautiful. There is a small fee of €3 each, that is for path maintenance, which felt like money well spent as the paths are clearly well maintained and it is a fraction of the price you will pay at the nearby more touristy places. The path maintenance is excellent - some paths in the mountains can have quite steep drops that are not for the faint-hearted, but this was an easy walk, even for those of you (like me!) who don’t have a good head for heights. We got the public bus to a nearby village and hiked round the lake to the gorge, then hiked up the gorge and up to the waterfall at the end, then back down (there are some sections where you can walk on either side of the gorge, so it was not just walking back the same way!). All in, it was a 16km round trip hike, but the gorge itself can be done more easily if big hikes are not your thing - there are various ways to get there (car parking and coach tours to the start of the gorge) and I think the actual gorge itself is probably only a 5-6km round trip without the additional sections we added on to our walk. I suppose it’s all a question of what you’re looking for - if you want a walk in untouched nature away from the crowds, then this will be perfect, and you can make it as long or short as you need. However if you want a short stroll in a more accessible touristy spot, then maybe the nearby Vintgar gorge will be more your thing. Take your pick - there’s something for everyone in this area :)

We had a hike through the Korita Mostnice with our toddler. What a beautifull place to be and to hike. Around every corner is a new view to enjoy.

We really enjoyed this hike. The blue was of the gorge is incredible. We walked up to the first alpine hit to eat and had an authentic meal with an incredible view of the mountains. It took us about two hours round trip.

This gorge was recommended by the owner of our Bled accommodation and we were definitely pleased to have visited what is a beautiful and in places dramatic wooded valley.

First a word about parking. If you're coming by car there's extensive parking above the village of Stara Fuzina - from where various trails start. We made the mistake of parking in the longer term car-park close to Bohinj lake: although the additional walk is pleasant enough across lush meadow it meant my wife got tired before reaching the open Volje valley above the gorge.

The paths on either side of the gorge are gently inclined but there are plenty of tree roots to negotiate so sensible walking shoes are recommended. At one point you suddenly come across a small building at which it becomes apparent you need to pay in order to continue. It's not massively expensive but it was bit of a surprise.

Generally the lively stream runs at ground level but in places the water had eroded through an astonishing depth of rock and you look down from a considerable height. The woodland felt really pristine and unspoilt.

Nice walk in the Mostnica Gorge. We think it is worth combining it with a walk to the Mostnica waterfall to make it worthwhile. If you do so, plan 3 to 4 hours. The walk is not difficult but best to plan water and hats on a warm day as there some unsheltered patches. 3€ per adult for visiting the Gorge.

We had two hours to spend at this beautiful gorge. The path next to the gorge was perfect. Not a real challenge, but safe and offered opportunities to look closer. The gorge was very varied with parts that had deep narrow walls, wider parts with potholes and also river parts. The walk was relaxing and not crowded at all. As we only had two hours we only walked the Mostnica part and took our time taking photos and enjoying the scenery. Highly recommended walk!

Gorgeous and not crowded (this was in August, mind you) nature trail through a village, along riverbanks, and along emerald green gorges.

Most of the trail was in the shade, which makes it perfect for summer.

It's part of an extensive network of trails throughout the Slovenian Alps, so you can extend the trail to suit your needs. We hiked through the village, to the gorges, and further along to the lovely waterfall.

There's even a restaurant between the gorges ad the waterfall (we did not go in so I cannot review it).

Great for a half-day hike away from the crowds.
