I've passed through this tiny town (sorry, I'm only familiar with places near train line) many times and thought I'd give it a visit.
Less than 25 minutes from Sants station gets you to Montgat. The beach is less than a ten minutes walk.
We passed the tiny beach, climbed a small grass hill and admired the view.
There's a long beach the other side of the hill, but on this visit we didn't walk on it.
The sea was fairly clean, in comparison to Barceloneta, but not as clean as Malgrat de Mar.
If you're in Barcelona and fancy a peaceful day or half day on a quiet beach, then consider this one over Badalona.

One of my favourite beaches to go, it is a lovely and quite place or at least it was when I went there. There is a chiringuito on the beach and I just miss so much their "claras". Hope to go back soon.

A very beautiful beach that is kept clean! It’s easily accessible and there are several restaurants stores and bars in the area! The Mediterranean is stunning! We saw several people paddle boarding but it wasn’t crowded either time we went which was late September

30 minutes in train from Barcelona, the beaches of Montgat are much more quiet and relaxed than Barceloneta or even nearer Badalona.

Three generations. Sandcastles, pop, shade, sun-beds, very clean beach & sea. Good beach bars, friendly staff. Family very friendly.
Crowded with happy people, playing in the sea, snoozing in the sun & just having fun.
Much nicer than the Barcelona beaches. Very easy to get to using the train.
Happy days!

Too small for the large quantity of people. Hard to park. People fishing on the same place where you’re bathing

my husband i visited barcelona on vaca for my 40th birthday. i researches all the beaches in barcelona and wasn’t to impressed with the reviews. when we arrived i asked a local about the best beach. he recommended montgat beach. it was about 30 min by train from barcelona and it’s beautiful. so clean, less crowded and we absolutley loved jr. we went twice and never visited a beach in barcelona. if you take the r1 line train you will get to montgat beach. just bring food and drinks it’s a small town.

This is a great beach. The water is transparent, it's not too busy and it's easy to get to. Perfect for a dip and ride bike along the paseo.

Our Barcelona Card covered the travel cost for a 20 minute suburban train hop up to this quieter beach as it falls within the city zone. We caught the train from Placa Catalunya - R1 line. Spent a few more relaxed hours about the beach with the kids but on the day we were there the water was clearly not clean enough for swimming in the afternoon. I swam anyway but used the shower afterwards and wouldn't repeat the trip at the moment. It may be a temporary issue. The beach in the city had looked much cleaner but I guess its hard to be sure... We found both beaches shelved down to waist deep water quickly which meant we had to be very watchful and attentive to our younger children.
