The location is amazing. You can drive all the up the mountain in your vehicle and park it in a secure parking lot.

Climb up a few stairs and soak in the views of lush green forests and holy hills. Highly recommended for anyone who would like to get a taste of ancient south Indian temple building, culture and myths.

To begin with this is a really really ancient temple located in the brahmagiri range bordering Karnataka.
The exact date of foundation is unknown but what's known is that this place is known as the Kashi of the south.
People come here to wash their sins away ,and be close to the Divine.
Temple timings are morning till 12pm and evening 5.30-8pm.
The temple has old architecture and the vibes feel so good here.
I personally felt so uplifted out here ,surely something divine and positive .
PS: people other then Hindu faith are not allowed inside the temple However they are free to enjoy the premises .
There is lots of shopping around the temple footsteps
I picked up some tea, ayurvedic herbs, honey ,soaps and what not for good price and premium quality (first shop down the steps)

The ride to the temple is amazing and from a forest zones , chances of spotting the wild is very very high .

Also recommended to travel in Your own transportation, as public transport in this side of the state is dull

My humble request is to visit this place and feel good ;)

We visited Thirunelli temple on a friends suggestion. The place was extremely serene and relaxing. The view of the tall mountains behind made us realize how small we are compared to nature. The fact that you can drive almost to the foot hills of the temple was a big advantage for elder people.v

Situated atop a hill. The temple is dedicated to Maha Vishnu. A bath in the nearby river and then a darshan is supposed to relieve one of all sins. Like most temples in Kerala, one is supposed to remove their shirt and go inside. No caps/hood is allowed. Photography is strictly prohibited.

Simply Pristine, Peaceful and tranquil.

30 kms from Mananthavady and 22 km from kattikkulam town in north Wayanad district, this temple offer unparalleled location in lap of mother nature. It is located in exceptionally serene, thick jungle and surrounded by Brahmagiri Mountains. Roads from Kattikkulam to Thirunelly temple passes through Tholpetty wildlife sanctuary and if you are lucky you may spot some wild animal on the way. Temple gives you refreshing and spiritual feeling once you see the beauty of nature around.

Temple dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu, it is of the oldest temples in Kerala. Temple still preserve the traditional architecture dating back to 10th century. Stone built main sanctorum reflect its holy importance.

Papanasini river stream which is 10 min. walking distance from back side of the temple is another attractions. Spend some time there and listen the sound of birds chirping, humming and feel totally melt in the Wilderness.

Temple close for Darshan between 12.00 pm to 5.00 pm.

Must visit this temple, even through not religeous but if you love nature and seclude atmosphere.

Step back in time. Close your eyes and you’re 500 years back. Pray sincerely and clear your way forward.
Amazing experience. Walk down the hill behind the Temple to where Sri Rama did Puja to King Dasarath.
Then walk on to a cave chiseled out of the mountain side for Lord Siva.
Magical experience

A beautiful temple on the top of a hill - ancient, peaceful...even if not for religious purposes, there's plenty of other reasons to visit. This is in the middle of a forest with the backdrop of green mountains. There are a few shops at the base of the hill and a very well maintained toilet.

Must do if crossing over from kabini / Coorg to wayanad.
