Staff are harsh they dont speak any other language other than Malayalam. They shout upon tourist for asking questions.
Life jackets are placed in the boats but not of good quality. Not even sure if they have a rescue team with proper motor boats incase of emergency.
Parking is a big problem you have to go almost 1.5 kms to park your vehicle and walk all the way back to the lake. Parking is completely filled with dust. Parking fees is been charged but no properly parking facility. They force you to park vehicle close of other cars. IT might damage while opening doors.

Pookode Lake is a scenic freshwater lake close to the boundary of the Wayanad and Calicut districts in Wayanad, Kerala. It has become a major tourist destination and has been promoted greatly by the Tourism Development Council of Wayanad District.
We visited this lake on our way from Wayanad to Calicut during our recent Kerala trip. Pookode is a natural freshwater lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 m above sea level. Kabini River originates here. The lake is supposed to resemble the shape of the map of India from the air but I couldn't make out the same when I visited the lake.
There is a species of cyprinid fish known to occur only in Pookode Lake.
The lake has boating facilities for the tourists and there are a few shops for eatables and a handicraft shop where a lot of local stuff can be procurred.
The lake is beautiful, but the facilities made to attract tourists has to a great extent spoilt the natural charm of the lake. The place has become overcrowded and unmanageable.

Place is quite crowded with tourists. Boating is an option. Opt for the two seater paddle boat and you can get one sooner. The jackfruit ice cream available at the snack bar is great - give it a try.

The Pookode Lake is one of the most prominent tourist places in Wayanad. It's a serene lake surrounded by Lush green hills. The entry fee to the Lake area is INR 40 per person and can either be paid via cash, credit card, UPI, etc., or booked online.
Once inside the lake area, you can see the amazing development made in and around the lake. On one end, there is a children's play area. These include various types of slides, swings, etc. A jogging track has been laid down around the entire stretch of the lake. You can also see people walking around the lake, taking photos, and viewing the natural beauty. For boating lovers, there are various types of boats here. Ranging from 2 seater ones to 6 seater ones. The charges for the boating begin with INR 300 for the two-seater for around 20 mins. But the time is sufficient to take your boat to the other side of the lake and return too.
A unique part about the lake is that it is filled entirely with vegetation inside. There are some sorts of plants growing inside the entire water. Upon touching it, you can see that the plants are very soft. It is one of the rarest things to see water vegetation growing naturally. At one end, you also have a big snacks counter that serves everything from noodles to chat to even traditional South Indian items. They also have a variety of flavors of ice cream, and the taste is delicious.
However, if you visit this place in the summer, especially in April or May, please wear sun protection, such as glares, caps, etc. It tends to get exceptionally hot, and with the water body around, it is humid too. But overall, the lake and the surrounding area are beautiful. If you are on a tour of Wayanad, this place should be at the top of your list.

Nothing exclusive to visit if you are short on time. However, if you just want to chill and spend some quality time, then take a walk along the lake . About 1 hour with lots of butterflies and nature to explore. The lake looks beautiful with violet/pink flowers in large patches.
Overall good value for quality time

The lake is quite beautiful and the boosting is enjoyable. They have a very good walkway surrounding the lake. Having a walk there is an excellent experience and we enjoyed it a lot. Surrounding trees ensured that we had comfort even during mid noon time. Quite photogenic.
They have a good aquarium in the lake complex and it's very good. Nice variety of fishes.
Just outside the lake gate is the virus park and it's just amazing. Different colourful exotic birds. They also let us get inside the bird cages and give us bird food in our hands. Birds shoot on our hands and eat, an amazing experience. We could also get in the cage of giant lizard.
Must visit the point at Wayanad. Highly recommended

Enjoy a boat ride here. Both, self-pedalling as well as assisted boats are available.
Also, enjoy about 2km walk around the lake.
A very calm and peaceful place to spend some leisure time.
