The Jain Temple of Sulthan Bathery built in the 13th century has withstood the tests of time – having served as a place of worship for Jains, Hindus and later used as an ammunition store (battery) by Tipu Sulthan’s army. The temple has quite a few exquisite stone carvings.
If you are not interested in history, you can skip this.

Positive Point: The location is on the highway itself. After the Sulthan bathery town, it’s on the left hand side towards Kalpetta (Calicut) on NH. Landmark is Assumption High School (just hand right side). It will take hardly 15 minutes to cover this spot.

We should appreciate the people there at the temple. A neat and tidy place. It is definite GOD is living here. A neatly maintained temple. A good cool place in the heart of Battery town.

One of the remaining monument to prove the presence of Jain community in Kerala, the Temple is well maintained. The granite building with its carved pillars, stone slab roof, the surroundings paved with granite are really a delight to visitors. The Local people highlight the story regarding the formation of the temple connected with Tippu Sultan, the King of Mysore.

There is no charge to visit the place but in most cases one cannot enter the actual temple. One can walk around it. There is nobody there to explain the structure but there is a board that gives the history of the place.

It is an 13th Century Ancient Jain Temple that was later used by Tipu Sultan to store his Ammunition and thus the britishers named the area Sultan Bathery.

I did not feel good about the present state of the Temple as it is a holy place and was ruined over the years.

However now it is protected by the Archeology Survey of India. There is a Guide who will provide Brief Info about the place and is appointed by the Government who did not accept any cash as gift from us.

Overall it is worth a Visit and would recommend it to travellers visiting Sultan Bathery, Wayanad.

Medieval monument of Jains who were lived in Sulthan Bathery. Later the abandoned temple was used by Tipu sultan as his Battery. Thus British called the place Sultan's Battery later the name become Sulthan Bathery. Worth visit.

Our family had been to Wynad for a wedding reception. as part of our visit we had visited the glass Jain temple in Kalpetta. This temple is privately owned so we need to contact the owner before visiting. the glass temple has been there for ages, and was well maintained and also got demo.
