Well, it was such a pleasure to return to the Spice Farm. During the time since the last visit, I had, actually, ordered roasted cacao beans and roasted coffee for my company, The Spanish Main Traders, and was looking forward to meeting the owner, Doctor Mathew Thomas and his, lovely, wife. We had lunch and got to know each other, in person. A very pleasant experience. We, also, met Magdeleno, who is who I transacted with. I can't recommend this excursion, enough. The tour of the botanical gardens is extraordinary. We were on a Norwgian Cruis excursion, when I first heard of the place, so we did the same excursion this last time.

We had a great private tour around the farm. It was really interesting trying lots of the spices in their raw form and seeing how the different things grow. If you are looking for something besides snorkeling/diving in Belize this is a really interesting diversion.

If you're fascinated by spices and their origin, this is the place. Although you're going to drive a bit to get there, it is well worth the time. Where else could you go to gain an understanding of spices such as nutmeg, cardamom, cinnamon, pepper corns, and more. All of those tropical spices in your pantry start in the rainforest, and observing and tasting them in their natural state is a fascinating proposition. Cool off with a soda or water then take a walking or riding tour. You'll see vanilla beans, cacao, coconut, orchids, coffee plants and so much more. The BSF is a treat for the senses and highly recommended. What a pity their food in the restaurant is truly awful. All that stunning produce and both meals we had their were terrible.

What an absolute gem the farm and gardens are. So tranquil and peaceful and full of some of the most beautiful and unusual plants, shrubs and trees. We spent approximately 2.5 hours with our guide Anselmo tasting and smelling just about everything. This is a great tour for all age groups and even non-gardeners will appreciate the beauty and diversity of the farm.

This was an amazing tour and highly recommended to anyone who gardens, enjoys plants and/or likes to cook. The tour is great for people of all ages and caters to people with mobility challenges. The beautiful cart is made of wood and pulled by a John Deer tractor that can be boarded by stepping off the porch of the store/restaurant.
The first stop was a garden in the shape of Belize's map and showed each district. The driver spoke of many plants and how they grow and are harvested. Highlights included nutmeg, cinnamon, white and black pepper and vanilla, just to name a few.
They serve lunch and beverages and have a beautiful gift shop that has locally made crafts and harvested spices. This is also a nice venue for weddings and special occasions.

Our guide from doing a Cockscomb Basin hike recommended doing the drive to the spice farm/botanical garden and I’m so glad he did.
We woke up from Placencia at 5:30a in order to make the hour plus a little drive there and be back in time to still have a full afternoon in Placencia. While we didn’t rush ourselves at the Gardens I must say that we could have easily spent more time there.
Cornelius was our guide and he was so awesome. He led us by tractor cart and stopped often to explain, show and taste. My two kids, 6 and 9, thoroughly enjoyed it too. After the tour we enjoyed an exquisite homemade Belizean breakfast of omelet, sausage and fry jacks plus fresh mango and orange juices. For 5 of us the tour plus breakfast was $240BZ, which equals out to the price that tour companies $120USD l charge WITHOUT meal FOR JUST 1 person and this money goes straight to the farm.
The owner and his wife are very attentive and kind as well. If you have the time, rent a car and go on out there. It’s an easy drive and informative while being fun...not to mention beautiful grounds with chirping birds throughout.

As most tourism sites in Belize, this facility is hurting for business during the pandemic. Their loss became our gain, because we received a personal guide through the farm on a golf cart. Amazing facility! Was able to smell and taste leaves and fruits from so many different fruits and spices.
I’m sure the regular tour is great, but if you’re not afraid to go during this pandemic, your experience will be awesome!

This was such an incredible experience. Seeing all the different spices in their natural state in the beautiful surroundings of the jungle was a real treat. This was a Norwegian Cruise Excursion, which I highly recommend. The hospitality was superb, as was the tour of the farm. Talk about exotic ... this was a place that rates high on that scale. There is a store there that has a wonderful selection of spices and other natural products.

My wife and I where on a cruise and one of our day trips was to the spice and botanical garden in Belize Central America. We took a bus trip from the the dock where the tender dropped us off. Since Belize is a English speaking country our guide was very informative about her country, the government, their money. Upon arrival at the spice and botanical garden we where ushered to the store and Resturant waiting for our tram ride through the gardens. A guide from the gardens explained all the flowers and explained how, nutmeg, cinnamon, coco, pepper, bananas, vanilla, various varieties of peppers. This was a wonder way to see how the spices we use grows. At the end of the tour we where able to purchase spices and hot sauces made on site. We where able to purchase some local food prepared on site. The restaurant and gardens where very clean and reasonable. I would recommend this day trip because it shows a-little of the country side as you go back to the tender.

Do I need advanced reservations for 2? Is there a day of the week that is better or less busy than others in April? Best time of day for the tour? We'll be seeing you this April! Thanks!

Got bit several times at the Spice Farm tour
I got bit by a black flying insect several times. We did bring bug spray with us but I forgot to put some on. We sat in the back of the tractor ride and our daughter who was carrying the bug spray sat in the very front while we went through the tour and I kept feeling something bite my ankles I would look down and see a black flying insect. I tried to shake my legs as to not cause a scene and scream and ruin the tour for everyone but it kept coming back to bite. This ruined the trip for me as all I could focus on was my ankles as if I took my eyes off for a minute and I stopped shaking my legs I would get bit again. Now 2 weeks later I have these swollen bites that are uncontrollably itchy. Can someone tell me what bit me so I can look up how to treat the bites?

Hi
Black little (very tiny) insect may be sand fly mostly seen in sandy beach area. We have Dr flies (like horse fly in US) not too much sand fly. It is seasonal.
I think a mild hydrocortisone cream (0.25 %) may help.
If infected ,may need antibiotics. Sorry this happened .How can I make it up to you
We are considering this tour in April - part of the NCL Ship. I read that the tour includes a lot of walking and stairs. Are the 100 steps that the fine print mentions all at once ? We are a group of 4 and one of the ladies has not great knees. Just want to know exactly how much climbing is needed etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We're considering this for our tour in January on the NCL ship. For buying spices and sauces, does the Belize Spice Farm take credit cards? What are the range of prices for fresh spices and sauces?
Thomas M

I will try to get you a price list, It is a long list
