A beautiful, hidden gem outside Bogota, hard to find but we’ll worth it! A peaceful paradise! Definitely worth a visit.

The drive from Bogota was over an hour - in the middle of "nowhere". To me, it was worth the drive. If you are not a nature enthusiast or hummingbird lover then may not be worth the time. We went early and were the only ones there at the time. We spent about 1-2 hours. At the time we left, a large group/van of people arrived which would have made the experience in the quiet garden much different. It is a small location that was buzzing with birds when we were there in January. There was no real orientation or assistance which was nice to be able to freely sit and watch the birds. But we had some questions and it would have been nice to get some education. No one was really around except for a young man who let us in. When we went to leave, someone ran after us and asked for payment. Which is fine but seemed weird since there was a donations bin on the table (donated) and nothing written about an entrance fee anywhere that I could see. I think it was about equivalent of $15/pp.

Our visit here was brief since we needed to catch a flight in Bogota, however, the quality of our short visit didn't suffer. The gardens are so beautifully cared for and the staff was very friendly and gracious. The birds certainly didn't disappoint either! Please visit and enjoy this remarkable gem!

Artsy accommodations, beautiful birds, and fantastic food in idyllic setting. We stayed two nights here, and it could not have been better. I love the whimsical and personal touches that Victoria had added throughout the location. Her hospitality is unmatched. A hummingbird dream and rich with many other species as well. I would definitely recommend.

Is an amazing place, lots of nature and different types of hummingbirds flying around!
The only bad thing is the bad condition of the road to get there.

My family and I visited the Observatorio last December. It is close enough to Bogotá so that it's easily accesible, and yet far enough to offer an experience off the beaten path. The gardens and trails are rather small/short but make no mistake: you'll experience hummingbird galore. We were able to see over 12 hummingbird species and just rejoice in their beauty. The cold mountain air keeps you alert and grateful to be alive. The staff is absolutely welcoming and knowledgeable and treated us to a delicious warm aguepanela.
We loved the gift shop as well and all the goodies available, all highlighting these breathtaking creatures.
This is a great place to support conservation efforts and ecotourism. Ideally, they will one day plant enough trees and bushes so that they don't have to resort to the sugary feeders, but all in all, it is a remarkable place to visit.

The place is near enough from Bogotá to visit it on a day trip but I highly recommend staying and book the B&B instead. We stayed overnight and were offered beautiful accommodation with everything you would expect in a high standard B&B. We stayed in a room with a fireplace, great shower, electric blanket and even a hammock in very good taste and respecting the beautiful nature surrounding us.
One of the benefits of staying overnight is that hummingbirds become really active before sunset and wake up very early morning whilst other bird species become active and offer additional sightings you would miss if you only take a day trip. The place is 3,000m above sea level and quite cold which makes for a nice cozy evening in front of the fireplace. If you're lucky you can also expect a clean sky full of stars and silence which is difficult to find anywhere these days.
The hosts are knowledgeable about the ecosystem and have developed wonderful experiences out of being in that environment and identifying each bird by its right name and habits. With polluted environment, traffic chaos and hectic life pace in Bogotá, going there even for one night is a real treat and worth every second as a way to re-energise and get rid of any stress, not to mention you will see bird species you are unlikely to see in such amounts and good health anywhere else.

It's tricky to get to without a car but definitely worth it! We took a bus from Bogota (calle 72 with Carrera 13) to La Calera ($3.800 per person), then from the centre of La Calera we took a taxi ($30.000) to the observatorio. Note that you need to make a reservation beforehand to visit. It's a beautiful place, with a few different areas where you can watch hummingbirds. There are 14 different species that visit the observatorio, and there is a poster to help identify them. There are also a couple of short walks you can do, and there are also two alpacas on the site. There is no food available but the entrance includes a hot drink. We spent about three hours altogether - it's a very peaceful place and watching the hummingbirds is a great experience!

This observatory is located closely to Bogotá so if you want to do an outdoor activity and not have to go that far this is the plan for you.

The place is really amazing, this is a farm with a beautiful house and well looked after gardens.

In the main garden they have all the hummingbirds feeders and the birds fly around. It is so amazing to be able to see the hummingbirds so closely. They are so beautiful, you can see the biggest one as well as the smallest ones. I think in there in habit about 12 different species.

The owner is so welcoming and nice and she was happy to answer all our questions about hummingbirds.

I really loved this place and I highly recommend it.

It's a great place to get out of Bogota and see beautiful hummingbirds up close. The owner Victoria is very welcoming and can share a breath of knowledge about the different types of birds. Every angle you turn there are gorgeous hummingbirds feeding in the garden. I could have stayed all day photographing the birds. On the premise, are also some alpacas which my friend's 2 year son loved. Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time because you don't want to make the drive which is about an hour from Bogota and get turned away.
