The fort is being restored. The job being done is good . One can imagine the way artisans of those years did their work with such precision and finish.
A must visit when in Bekal.

A very nominal fee for a very well preserved monument. The view is exceptional. The only minus point is that it closes before the sunset, so you can't get the full effect of a seaside fort.

Architecture and the views are amazing. It is fairly well-kept and pretty crowded. There are a lot of stairs and a lot of walking to do if you want to reach the very top.

A must place to visit while in Bekal, though not much of the original fort is left the grounds are well maintained and offer an excellent view of the surrounding beaches.

The fort is not large but it is very well preserved. There were no guides when we went to see it. Most of it consists of open lawns and a few turrets. Great views of the city and the sea.

Firstly, I was surprised with the way the place was maintained. The Archeological survey of India that is responsible for this have done a fantastic job. Kudos to the government and team for preserving this scenic beauty. Forget the history and the negatives associated with the fort. Just go there for the most spectacular views with the mesmerising experience as the mighty waves lashing the rocks. You can be assured of a 100 spots within the property that are instagram worthy. My favourite is the arched door from where you can view the sea and the romantic stone bench where that is an ideal place for romantic couples to spend a quite evening.
Photographers, cinematographers, artists, writers..creative folks must visit. This place is so meditative. Please choose working week days to visit and avoid holidays so you can enjoy the views with less people around. Thanks to Mani Ratnam the genius South Indian film director and Rajiv Menon, the brilliant cinematographer, Bekal was romanticised in the fear film Bombay. But friends who belonged to that region had warned me not to expect much. This made me go there with nothing in my mind but the scenes from the film. And I was blown with the views from all over the fort, the cleanliness of the entire place the beautiful gardens maintained very well and the staff who were there to watch over visitors.
This is place that will stay in your mind for a long time.

Bekkal is famous due to it's fort so don't miss it. The fort is well maintained and there is a lovely walkway around. You get some amazing views of the sea from the fort.

Exceedingly well maintained - 350 year old fort with magical views of the Arabian Sea. Huge waves splashing on the walls of the fort and the surrounding rocks is a sight to behold

We were surprised to see the very well conserved fort walls. Suggestion go early in the morning, as no shade anywhere, afternoon can be very hot

The best part about the fort is the lovely views of the beach and water this place offers. There is quite a large area to walk around.
I would highly recommend people to go here early in the morning before 9 am or so, to avoid the sun. It gets pretty hot later in the day. Also one should go equipped with sun caps.
