The path to the monastery is rocky, and if you aren't very sure footed you need to go carefully but it is OK and you don't need walking poles. It is quite atmospheric and I wonder how people survived here. It feels like a hermit's cave and information about it would be helpful. The view over the valley gives you a feel of how strategically it must have been as the view of the river Dneister is quite panoramic. You get a good idea of what life is/was like here and there are Roman, and I think Trajan, ruins. It's quite a contrast to the painted monasteries of Eastern Romania. A priest was selling candles in the larger cave. Alongside paintings there is more recent (Communist era? ) graffitti when the church was presumably neglected.

n Rezina district, Moldova. Along with the villages of Lalova village and Nistren is part of the commune of Lalova village.
On the Bank of the Dniester River is near the village of Rocky monastery, founded in the 6th century. Here in the 15th century ruler Stephen III the great (Ştefan cel Mare) got married with his wife Maria Vojkicej
If you go in Rezina city I recommend to see this monastery

We went to see this monastery on our way back from Lalova, where we had lunch. The road was quite bad. The monastery is small with a church that makes no special impression. No information on the history of the place. There seem to be some caves around, no sign for them here.

After travelling of 2 h from Chisinau you find a historical place for praying and silence. Monks explains the history of the monastry and celebrate holy Songs and texts. Tourists have the opportunity to stay at the monastery during the summer time. Be Aware: The way to the Caves is very icy and slippery during the winter time. A beautiful view from the monastery to the river Nistru and the territories of Transnistrian.

Tipova monastery has quite of a strict dress code. We apparently were not dressed appropriately, to enter. Male should wear a suit (jeans and t-shirt in not appropriate), woman long dress and head scarf (pants for a woman are a no-no). That was the 3rd and last monastery we tried to see in Moldova, because I do not, under no circumstances wear a dress and will not do so, much less for a church.
I see many post rocky monastery pictures under Tipova monastery. Tipova monastery is on the top of a cliff, with a blue church. Where to you go to rocky (cave monastery) I do not know. We did not bother to find out, after being discouraged with the dress code.
But the views from a cliff are amazing.

Getting to Tipova requires traveling by car over 90km or so, and about 15km of that in the last leg of the journey is on really bad roads. However, the trip will be worth it as Tipova, touted as Eastern Europe's largest cave monastery, is unique and interesting.

A cute little blue church is the first building I saw upon approaching the site. Then walking towards the cliff edge, a path led down towards the cave monastery. Do expect a brisk walk or climb of about 20 minutes down steep trails.

Tipova is built or carved into the cliff walls overlooking the Dniester River with the town of Popencu on the other bank. The chambers were linked by sometimes precarious steps carved into the cliff walls. I had to exercise caution as there were parts where I was not able to proceed further as the steps had broken off.

The view from the monastery is fantastic.

The monastery has no official website, and I could not find information regarding its opening hours. It seems you can visit it by daylight.
The surrounding are very beautiful, it is recommended to walk along. The trail starts unfar from the monastery (between it and the Dniestr river), as you can reach it "24/7" :)
Getting down, you will see the caves a few minutes after starting. Pay attention to snakes (there are signs).
The GREATEST view on the surroundings, the river and Transnistria can be from the top of a hill, on the opposite side of the small river in the side-valley. To reach the top, you will have first to cross the small river (find a place where stones or a fallen tree make it possible), then to climb an almost non existing trail, so I would not recommend it to everyone or with small children.. But the view is really top, and it is very quite. I would have staid there hald a day :)
Back to the valley, you can follow the good trails and reach (on the right) perhaps the nicest waterfall, (on the left) other cascades and a cave. Plan 2-3 hours on spot, you will not regret it.
