We made a quick stop here with our tour guide Mickey before heading to the Big Buddha. We got a crash course in cashews and how they’re made and we were able to sample quite a few flavors. We definitely indulged and bought a few different flavors. Nice pit stop if you’re in the area

Methee Phuket Co.Ltd is also known as “the cashew nut factory” and we visited it at Surin Road in Phuket Town. It has a very spacious car park for customers and a sales area with rows and rows of low racks displaying many types of snacks, titbits, crackers and candies with a wide assortment of flavours which were all pre-packed in attractive and hygienic containers and boxes. There were a few racks of cashew nut products produced in a variety of combinations with other foodstuff like sesame seeds and seaweed, to offer a more varied choice for the customers but it’s funny that a larger part of their products on sale were non-cashew nut-related.

As the name implied, we went there expecting to buy big bags of roasted or raw cashew nuts like those on sale in Indochina but it was not to be. They have become very commercialized, selling only processed food in various forms and flavours but in smaller packing, focussing mainly on the tourist market. Another negative observation is that the things on sale there were all very pricey indeed in comparison to similar products sold elsewhere in Phuket or even Thailand.

Well, if you are on vacation I guess a tiny splurge would not hurt..

OMG, the last thing I expected was to find that you could buy a drink of cashew juice. And YUM...it was indescribable as to what it tastes like, but very morish.

Being able to try all of the products makes this a nice way to end a day of tours.

If you're looking to make a purchase from a large selection of cashew nuts, this place is for you. If you're looking to visit a cashew nut factory, don't waste your time stopping.

We visited as part of our shore excursion. Upon entering the building there are 2 women showing how the cashews are removed. There is an oil in the shell that is poisonous and that is why they have to wear gloves. There is only 1 cashew nut per fruit so that is why they are an expensive nut. Various flavoured cashew nuts (Sour cream/ onion, seaweed, chilli & salted) are on display for sampling, but they are in small plastic containers that you reach into, not the most hygienic way to sample. You can then purchase either in cans or sealed packets of 3. The prices are rather expensive. They also have various dried fruits, fish etc that can also be purchased.

It's been years since we visited a cashew nut processing factory. Cheated again, it's now mostly a shop with a few ladies extracting cashew nuts. If you are not familiar with the cashew nut, the edible part is a very small portion of the overall and protrudes from the base. The pressure is on to buy as soon as you step inside, your own personal escort, in fact two for my wife and I and each carrying a basket. We sampled a few products, very tasty. There is an extensive range of products available but prices are exorbitant. Ignore the sad faces of your escort if you walk out without purchasing. Maybe the pricing is high because commissions are payable to the tour companies and guides. I didn't even bother taking a photo.

Just another tourist trap for your tour guide to pull commission from.
When we entered the staff put a shopping basket in our 2 and 3 year olds hands, then started putting products into them!!!
If that's not pushy, I don't know what is.
I emptied the baskets, and we all walked out.
The sad thing is they screw their faces up at you because you don't buy what they to force you to.

We (Aussie couple in late 20's), went with a tour. Was second last on itinerary. Cashews are to die for there so we bought nearly $50 aud worth. However, when we went to proceed to the cashier, we were greeted by snarls and when asked if it was all together, we replied "yes, together". She looked at us as if she didn't understand but was more than capable asking if it was all together. We had to make gestures with our hands and when she finally understood she said out loud "f***ing hell!". I replied "excuse me?" and then proceeded to ask for our money.

Moral of the story is definitely buy some cashews, they are all cracked open by hand...ALL of them!, and are delicious...but don't expect normal service at cashier, especially the lady with glasses!!

Not a factory but there was a lady opening cashew nuts which is a long laborious process, one nut at a time. The shells are used to make brake pads. Quite educational but the best part of the tour was being able to taste everything on sale and to taste the drink made from cashew nuts. There are cashews in an amazing range of flavours plus candied fruits and all sorts of snack foods. As a fan of cashew nuts I was very happy to visit here and the purchase quite a few varieties.

Again another stop on the tour that I would not have gone to myself, but we found alot of interesting souvenirs that we bought, saved us money and time from getting them somewhere else and the service was polite and friendly.
