Overview
More
Situated in the picturesque village of Muker, in magical upper-Swaledale, the Old School Gallery & Craftshop showcases the best regional and British art and crafts. Our gallery represents the work of some of Yorkshire’s finest artists, offering an ever evolving mix of styles and mediums. The craftshop stocks a wide range of local and British produced merchandise from soft furnishings and ceramics, to metalwork and natural skin care products. Our self-service café offers delicious cake and coffee, and with its private, walled, garden, offers a place to relax and soak up views of the surrounding fells. The gallery, craftshop and café, are uniquely housed in Muker’s 19th century schoolhouse with a history dating back to the 1690’s and surrounded by the stunning fells and magical waterfalls of upper Swaledale, part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

We were staying locally and kept returning to this lovely art gallery. Kept spending money too! Would have been happy to have taken quite a lot of the art work home as it was very appealing. Lovely homemade cake in the garden with a cup...More

I have bought the occasional item here but today was looking for a cup of tea as the main cafe in Muker is closed on a Tuesday. It is self service and a little cold and although the tea is rather pricey at £2 the...More

A delightful 17th Century school building long since converted into a wonderfully creative array of art & crafts. With a long history of one owner it has fairly recently been taken over by equally passionate Richard & Pauline. They have lots of new ideas whilst...More

Lovely to hear you love the artists we showcase, and that you found the Whitby print by Kate. Our winter plans are coming on, so hopefully you'll see a few changes when you return. Look forward to seeing you then. All the best. Richard &...More

Having not been to Muker for a couple of years we popped in here again. There were more items of interest to us than previously so we were able to make a couple of modest purchases.

Shame we couldn't get out into the garden but we had a slice of the deliciously moist carrot cake each with a can of San pellegrino lemon. Left the £8 in the honesty box and then a nice look around the gallery and the gift...More

It was a pleasant surprise to find owners, Barbara and Jon, were parents of pupils Paul had taught in the past. They couldn't have been more welcoming. We thoroughly recommend tea, cake and birdwatching in their tearoom with a garden view. There's also a well-chosen...More
