The gems of Uttarakhand are not limited to natural beauty or adventure activities.
Our Chakrata itinerary included visiting a beautiful albeit lesser known temple in Uttarakhand – Mahsu Devta Temple.
After breakfast at our Resort we drove for around 4-5 hours to reach Hanol. Hanol is around 150 kms from Dehradun and is a holy place famous for Mahsu Devta Temple. Lord Mahsu is the main deity of this area and is worshipped by people at Hanol and nearby villages. The 9th century temple is located in the valley surrounded by jaw dropping beautiful mountains and forests.
The temple is built in Naagar or North Indian style of architecture that is typical of this region. The simplicity of the temple also reflects in the inhabitants of this region. The head priest told us about the four Mahsus and the various traditions and rituals around the Gods or Devtas. The sanctum sanctorum has idols of Mahsu brothers who are known for their sense of justice.
We were surprised to see a lot of goats roaming around in the temple premises. Apparently when a devotee’s wish is granted, they donate a goat in the temple.

Hanol is one among the most famous holy place's of Uttarakhand. Approx 150 Km ahead from Dehradun City . Lord Mahasu Devta's temple is situated here. Temple is surrounded by lush green hills, very beautiful place. You must visit Mahasu Devta temple for his blessings. There are two ways to reach hanol one by Chakrata and other from Mussoorie-Damta-Purola. Second route from Mussoorie is better as roads are good in comparison of Chakrta Route. Hanol is a small place so more hotel to stay there but Uttarakhand Government's Guest house (GMVN) with catering facility is available there , you can book it online or offline both mode. Purola and Tyuni are nearby places where you will get more option to stay and food.
Must visit at least once to get blessing of Lord Mahashu Devta the chief deity .. you would always love this place always after getting blessings of Mahashu Devta ...highly recommended..👍

The legendary temple is situated on a narrow valley of Rupin river in Jaunsar Bawar region of Garhwal Himalayas. The village is known as Hanol. The temple is made of stone and wood. Architecture is splendid and there are some excellent wood carvings. When I entered inside felt that the legend of Mahabharata era is still alive there. The natural beauty of the adjoining area also caught my eyes. There is a GMVN Rest House in Hanol, very near to the temple, but it was our day visit on way to Rohru in Himachal Prafesh. We took lunch in the near by small city named Tiuni and then started for our next destination.

The temple is situated in Tuini - Mori road at Hanol. The temple is dedicated to Lord Mahasu Devta as Lord Mahasu is the chief deity of the all nearby areas.
It was built in the 9th century. It is also included in the Archaeological Survey of India list of ancient temples.
Said to be made by Pandavas after the Mahabharata.
From Dehra Dun one can go via Chakrata or either via Purola. Route from Purola is extremely beautiful once you leave the Purola town behind and proceed towards Mori. Lush green forest with awesome views. The best part is the 1 hour drive from Mori to Hanol along side the river. That is the most exotic ride you will have in your lifetime.
The Mahasu Temple is considered as one of the most divine temple in all of Uttrakhand as well as Himachal Pradesh. People all around comes to visit and take blessings of the Mahasu Devta.
The most unusual aspect of the temple is the two spherical rocks about one foot in diameter. The fun part is to lift these rocks on your shoulder and head and then throw them to the ground. It is believed that only a pious-hearted person can only lift up these rocks. Also known as Marbles of Bheem.
A must visit place for taking blessings and watching an archaeologic site too
