Presentation

One of the best presented displays I have ever visited. Information was displayed in many different innovative ways. Lots of interactive activities. A visit well worth making.

With a long layover in Johannesburg my wife and I decided to visit the Cradle of Humankind, 50 kilometers NW of the city. I'm a very interested science observer when it come to the evolutionary origins of homo sapiens and this place gave me goosebumps! We visited the Sterkfontein Caves where, in 1947, a 2.3 million year old Australopithecus africanus... More

Only visit if you are serious about the field of study. The exhibition center is quite boring. At R160 it's overpriced. Displays are dated.

A worthwhile exhibit with plenty of information about the development of hominids and early humans. I was, however, somewhat disappointed by the lack of actual artifacts of early human development. Most of the most significant paleontological finds are represented by replicas. It's understandable that the universities that found them want to keep them, but you would think that some kind... A must see even for the pessimists as definitely some food for thought. Comfortable clothing and shoes a must especially if attempting the second phase. The boatride in the homegrown shark infested waters really the highlight............

Very educational look on things, very well suited for school groups. Came from overseas with a local friend who found it more interesting than we did but enjoyed the visit just the same.

We hired a private driver to take us from Joburg to the Sterkfontein Cave and Maropeng Visitor Center. My suggestion is to go to Maropeng first to get an informative and interesting overview of the archeological significance of the area and the evolution of mankind. The boat ride is hokey, but the rest of the museum is excellent. Then, go... More

The place is a 40km from Jozi and you will enjoy the road and the places thru. You will not find any real ancient traces in the place itself, still it deserves the visit. Especially, if you are - as I was - with your children that will be able to match what they are studying on books in an... More

Very much aimed at kids and teenagers. Very busy and noisy exhibition, but that probably appeals to today's kids and teenagers. "Boat ride" is an interesting feature but it is not clear what purpose it serves in the context of the exhibition. Good fun for kids, I'm sure. Can't recommend going there if you want to learn quietly about the... More

We spent several hours at the Cradle of Humankind today. It is well worth the visit. I think going earlier is better -- less crowded. Great deal of history; all the way back before man. Although it was only 2 minutes long, the boat ride was the best part -- lots of fun.
