First, this is not in Darjeeling. Its in Dow Hill, Kurseong. TripAdvisor needs to fix the location.
The museum is not too far from the Deer Park. Its a two storied building with nice and wide variety of specimens. Its a great place for those interested in wild life specimens. Sadly, the upkeep is not that great. We also noticed signs of deterioration. This is rather unfortunate as the museum could have been much better maintained and show cased.
On the way out, don't forget to take a stroll through the nearby adjoining park ( not deer park ). It has nice flora and great specimens of trees. Also a very nice look out place with views of the valley.

The Forest Museum has a fabulous collection of Butterflies. Rare species are seen here. The stuffed Birds and bigger animals are also in a pretty goos number. But a general lack of upkeep and maintenance is getting to the specimen. The specimen are detereorating very badly and if some correction is not done in time, it may literally go to dogs. It will be sad to see such nice collection getting wasted.

The West Bengal Forest School Museum, located in the woods of the Dow Hill in Kurseong features some rare collections of animal skins, bones and hides, selection of models, photographs of certain fauna of the forest regions, other forest produces and artifacts but in a state of concern. Some of the rare woody specimen have already started showing signs of deterioration. I learn from various reviews that this is not something new and do not also understand the reason for such negligence.

Great for nature lovers. The entrance is free but very difficult to find anyone to open the door. Does not maintain regular visiting hours..so prepare to be dissapointed.Located in Dow Hill , Kursong next to the forest training school. Has a great neglected collection of lepidoptera and other local animals. The most macabre exhibits are the human skeleton(what does this have to do with the forest) and a stool made from an elephants leg (gross). The museum also features scale models of dams and perhaps old forgotten forest projects. No antiques though....surprised !

The forest museum is in Dow Hills, Kurseong. The complex also holds the Forest School. The Museum is a two storey building. It contains animal skins, bones and hides and wooden products. It also has models of different dams, forest houses etc. And it has a skeleton. We did not have to buy a ticket, entrance is free.
