- Andre HCape Town, South Africa416 contributionsGreat SceneryWe visited the Reserve on the 24 Aug 2021 & it was a nice experience. There are many picnic spots throughout the Reserve with some amazing views over the fields of flowers. It takes about 45mins to complete the whole tourist flower route. There are 4x4 routes which cost a bit extra. Accommodation is also available in the Reserve. Day visitors cost R30pp . The Reserve is about 15km outside of Springbok & worth a visit while in the area.Visited August 2021Written 27 August 2021
- mrd4430Marana, Arizona79 contributionsQuiet and peaceful nature reserveWe visited this reserve two days in a row as we ran out of time the first day. It was very warm both days but we did a portion of the hike that went up and up and had incredible views. We wanted to do the self drive but ran out of time so came back the next day. The drive was very nice and we mainly saw lizards and zebras. We never saw anyone else the entire time we were there, probably because of the heat. Nice restrooms were available near the main parking lot.Visited January 2023Written 27 January 2023
- Deon K10 contributionsGreat accommodation, friendly staff and beautiful nature!me and my group of 14 were to camp at Goegap Nature Reserve during our recent safari to the Northern Cape. Due to a brewing storm, the staff graciously allowed us to upgrade at minimal cost to the group huts which made our stay extremely enjoyable while the winds were gusting and the rain were falling. Great staff!, Great scenery and very affordable! Thanks Goegab!Visited June 2021Written 9 July 2021

Scenery to die for! Abundant colourful flora. Tourist route very gentle. 4x4 routes challenging, especially if you take one you didn’t intend to!

This reserve is only a few minutes outside Springbok. There is a "Tourist Route" that takes you around a 13 km loop that passes through some beautiful terrain. This loop can be loaded with wildflowers during the South Africa spring and provide excellent flower photo ops. You can drive this loop in less than an hour (or quite a bit longer if you are stopping to take photos like we were). You do not need a 4-wheel drive to do this loop. There are longer drives in the park (up to 90km loops) that require 4-wheel drive and could take all day to complete. I did not drive one of these but they looked to pass through some amazing scenery. The real time to visit this park is in the July-September wildflower season when the park transforms into an incredible color palette.

We loved our drive through the park despite the overcast, drizzly weather. The flowers were simply stunning. We stopped at the visitor center, watched some ladies baking bread over a charcoal fire, bought some hot chocolate and strolled through the succulents garden. The tourist trail was a beautiful drive, about 14 kilometers. Entrance fee for seniors is about $1 USD.

People often say that pictures of the desert in wildflower seasons do not reflect the scenery as it actually is. Visiting this reserve during flower season confirms this. Until you get to view the blooms close up, you can never experience the splendor of the flowers as it really is. It truly is one of the great wonders of the natural world.
To complete the experience, there is a small outdoor kitchen that serves lunch of traditional food, cooked on the fire. The reserve is very close to the town of Springbok so it is easily accessible on good roads.

Beautiful place. The best reserve I have visited in a very long time. And so peaceful.
What made it the best was staying at namakwa guest farm next to the reserve. Absolute luxury at the heart of namakwaland.
Will definitely return in future

Enjoyed the mountains and rocks and plants. We didn't see any animals on the short scenic drive but still enjoyed the scenery. Park is beautifully kept and enjoyed the picnic spots where we had lunch. Will visit again during flower season

This reserve is well geared up for people who want to drive a few routes (both in a sedan or an off road vehicle) or people who want to come in an picnic and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. This is a green oasis in the desert area and well worth a visit if you are ever in Springbok area

Having just arrived in Springbok at around 14h00 we looked at activities and a trip to Goegap was one. We arrived at around 15h00, late for a visit to a reserve but we didn't really have a care. 2 vehicles were signing in before us, about 5 min in total at the office and we were at the gate. Gate check in was a non event. No time for any 4x4 route, We did the 45min tourist route, a circular viewing route with some amazing views. It's a good serene stroll thru a part of the reserve and inexpensive. Worth doing if you have not too much time and want to be outdoors.
Other than the flowers, we saw.some.amazimg picnic spots. Definitely with spending some time at one

How do you get to the reserve from cape town? Are there tours that run or would I need to rent a car and drive?
Arripay
Greyton, South Africa16 contributions
It's a 7/8 hour drive, easy driving, straight up the N7. Probably the best way to get there. There are plenty of good places to stop overnight if you want to break the journey.

There's at least one campsite in the reserve and there's one on the edge of Springbok. If you contact the reserve they should be able to help.

Hi,
Does anybody have any info on the chalets at Goegap reserve. I have seen a number of references to Bush huts but also reference to chalets but I can’t find a website with actual pictures, booking contact details or information on the chalets. A number of websites refer to the Bush huts which appear to be huts in a camp ground with shared facilities but I’m after a self catering chalet with private facilities. Do these exist on the reserve and who do I contact to book?
Thanks for your help

Hi, just out of curiosity, is the 4x4 route strictly 4x4 low range only, or can it be done with a high clearance AWD or 2-WD Diff lock?
