My group did the overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound, on the Fiordland Navigator. The trip involves a small-boat crossing of Lake Manapouri, a coach journey over the mountain pass to the cruise dock, then the reverse on the way back. The relative inaccessibility of Doubtful Sound is a blessing, as it means it's not overcrowded with day-trip boats and millions... More

We were amazed by this wonderful trip. It leaves from Manapouri, travelling across Lake Manapouri, then a bus to Doubtful Sound. There were about 66 of us on the trip. The ship was magical - like stepping back in time. No wi-if, no phone signal, so very peaceful. The crew were great - particularly Carol, the wildlife guide, whose knowledge... More

This trip is a must. It was much bigger than Milford Sounds. We travelled on a bus then a boat then a bus and then a boat and return. We went right to the west coast and Tasman Sea. WE saw seals, Dolphins. Well worth the money.

The trip through Doubtful Sound is one to do in your lifetime. As the local people say, Doubtful Sound is far superior and far larger than the other Sounds. We travelled by boat for several hours through some of the most incredible and breathtaking wilderness. Guides did a great job telling us about the fascinating history of the area and... More

Wow! What a beautiful place - and I'm not kidding it was like being in Jurassic Park. This was the last of three activities my husband and u did with Real Journeys and while it was a beautiful place the whole experience was slightly less enjoyable then the Milford Sound day tour from Te Anau with Real Journeys. Firstly, the... More

Wow. Real Journeys does an excellent job in taking you to Doubtful Sound by informing you along the way and then letting the scenery speak for itself. It made us think of what the Psalmist wrote - In God's hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made... More

I reluctantly paid for my teenage son and I to go on the Lake Manapouri and Doubtful Sound day cruise, the power station is not accessible at the moment. However, Real Journeys look after you from the moment you are collected to the moment they drop you off. If you haven't brought lunch with you there is a café at... More

I must confess that I never really wanted to go on this cruise. I had done the Milford Sound cruise several years ago and thought what more could I see. Well it turns out I could see lots more. We started the day cruising over Lake Manapouri to the power station. We were then picked up and driven over the... More

We decided to have one special adventure on an otherwise budget concious holiday and this was it. The money is worth it. It is a full day of beautiful scenery. Tour guides friendly and well versed in history conservation and science. Be prepared for wet weather and dry humour.

I am really glad I chose this trip, even though it is longer and more expensive than the one to Milford Sound. We were lucky in having clear weather, but just enough clouds and fog to enhance the natural beauty. The sounds and the fjords themselves are amazing. It is wonderful that this area is a World Heritage Site and... More
