- bge2410 contributionsBest of Ireland in One AfternoonThis was the true highlight of our trip to Ireland. First we enjoyed George and his three border collies, who explained and demonstrated how the dogs herded sheep. It was hard to be more enthusiastic than these dogs but we were. Their intelligence and energy was astonishing. After these lovely animals were finished working, their intensity vanished and they enjoyed being petted and played with. That would have been enough to create an unforgettable day but then we went inside the farmhouse for sandwiches, tea, scones and cream, accompanied by a charming Irish musician. He entertained us with traditional songs and instruments. It was almost as much fun as watching the dogs. These authentic experiences are vanishing so I hope that you'll go and support themVisited September 2021Written 26 September 2021
- therealjennAustin, Texas154 contributionsBest Dogs, Best Meal, Best ViewsI visited in June 2022 as part of a Great Rail Journeys excursion. Glen Keen Farm was the highlight of our Ireland vacation! Becca and Jan (the best dogs in all of Ireland) demonstrated their sheep herding skills with much enthusiasm. I enjoyed the best meal, no contest, of my nine days in Ireland here while listening to Irish music performed live. A few members of our tour group were selected to participate in the music performance, and we all joined in a singalong. The grounds of the farm are breathtakingly gorgeous, as was the journey to and from through Connemara.Visited June 2022Written 24 June 2022
- Neil M1 contributionA GEM!Brought a tour group here a few days ago. Fantastic place to visit, the guests were made to feel very welcome & were served with an excellent meal. The sheepdog demonstration was the highlight of their visit to Ireland, they really enjoyed themselves. Well done to all, a great experience 👍Visited May 2022Travelled on businessWritten 18 May 2022

Really lovely place from a vista standpoint. The staff was informative and cordial. The dogs (Border Collies) are so very skilled and athletic, truly wonderful to watch them work. The lunch after the demonstration was hearty, filling, and very tasty.

Stopped in Sept 2023 with our tour group which included my wife, adult children, and about 40 other travelers.
We thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration of “pete bog cutting” (though we had to cut it short due to a sudden deluge of rain - mike, our presenter, was conscious of our comfort.)
Thereafter we had a chance to watch Jan, the sheepherder dog in action - - simply amazing. This was worth the experience all by itself.
Then, we had lunch at the farm and some delicious scones as well.
During the lunch there was a live concert given by Cormac Connie Cullen - - my goodness, this man was gifted and made the strongest impression on me for Irish Folk / Rock Music. I had hoped to buy a CD, however he’d not recorded one. (Reminds me of James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen mixed together… yep, that good.)
They have a very nice souvenir store onsite. The staff were very helpful. The selection was nice, even though they did not have refrigerator magnets with “glen keen farm”, sheep, dogs,Pete .. in fact, very few of the Knick knacks had the “GlenKeenFarm”experience name on it. The customer experience rep said they were considering refrigerator magnets for future sale.
For a relaxing afternoon of good fun, good food, and good music, get on over to Glen Keen Farm - you’ll be glad you did.

By the time I arrived at Glen Keen Farm I felt like I already knew Catherine.
We exchanged emails over a couple of months and I instantly liked her.
It's a beautiful farm. The largest sheep farm in Ireland.
We arrived and were greeted by beautiful border collies. We learned about "turf cutting" which seems like a lot of work (it is) but it was used instead of coal to heat homes.
Holding lambs and feeding them was my favorite part. I could have stayed all day. Watching the lady collies go to work was fabulous! They are eager to do their job....."got this mom." No sheep is allowed to be left behind. What a delight on a perfect Ireland day.
We enjoyed delicious scones (the BEST in Ireland)! I believe Catherine said it was her grandmother's. Do not miss Glen Keen! If just to meet Catherine and her collies, the sheep and taste her delicious scones!!!!!

Can't comment on the food or drink here since we just stopped by briefly during our bike tour to check out the store out of curiosity, but we ended up chatting with the elderly gentleman who owns the farm for a good while, and he was so sweet and friendly. He told us a lot about his family and the history of the farm, and he let us pet his amazing border collies, who were so affectionate. It was a very memorable experience, and we really appreciated his kindness.

Huge thank you to Catherine, Brendan (Neantóg), Jim, Bartley, Glen (the dog) & all the staff at Glen Keen Farm for looking after JCI Ireland so well last weekend.
We took part in the Sheep Herding, trad music and scones and what an amazing time we had!
All of our guests left with a huge smile on their faces and were so impressed with the views, the service and the whole feeling at Glen Keen.

A warm and welcoming place to visit, and also very educational. We visited with another family and enjoyed scone making, live music, a yarn demonstration, and, everyone’s favorite, a sheepdog demonstration. It was an extremely enjoyable experience and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The dogs are outrageously cute and wonderful, and the setting is gorgeous. They also have a nice gift shop with unusual items and clothes handmade by the artisan who gave the yarn demonstration. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

This is a must stop destination. The sheep dog demonstration is wonderful and the restaurant is all locally sourced ingredients and the food is excellent. The owner was very well versed in her farm as she was raised there.

Our Trafalgar Tour had a stop at Glen Keen farm for a demonstration of the dogs and lunch. Everything was wonderful. Jim and Catherine were most welcome. The dogs were amazing. The food was simply delicious, particularly scones and clotted cream.

I am planning a private guided tour of Ireland. Would the activities be open to a private group of 4? What are the costs of the tour and how much time should be allotted?
