It was well worth a visit to Leapers Hill. You need to park a couple of minutes walk away between the school and the church. There was a lady at the cemetery who showed us round for about 10-15 minutes and gave us lots of historical information. You can put a donation in the box at the end. You can see the viewpoint where the Carib Indians leapt to their death rather than surrender to the French.

WOW! What a view from here! Very pretty! Miss Agnes gave us a tour and explained lots of history. It was very interesting. Be sure and go to her little shop up by the church and school and have some homemade ice cream-the soursop was delicious!

The English and the French could not tolerate each other. There were lots of fights.
Eventually, the English pushed the French to their death.
Everybody was again at peace.
The Leapers Hill is in the cemetery. We can visit it freely. It is wortwhile to read the cemeteries, some have been here for a long time.

Worthwhile to see!

Located behind the Catholic Church in Sauteurs, there is limted parking behind the church. Alternatively park near the post office next door. There is not a lot to see, just a cliff edge and serious drop down to the beach below. A modern monument records the story of the local Caribs jumping to their deaths rather than submit to the French invaders.
At the back of the church is a small refreshment counter - don't miss the home made ice-cream which is sold in aid of the church.

Worth a peep if you are in Sauteurs. Very nice Romantic story about the Carib indians commiting suicide by jumping off the cliffs rather than be captured. In my opinion the truth is they were forcedoff the cliff and executed by the French soilders

Quiet memorial next to a beautiful church with stunning views out to sea. Memorial for the local Caribs who rather than be killed by the French soldiers lept off the cliff to their deaths. A reminder of the worst of colonialism. In the graveyard is also the grave of the first diagnosed case of sickle cell. An interesting European grave constructed of bricks as they were used to balance the boats on their journey to the Caribbean , then left behind to make room for the spice cargos. An interesting place to visit if you are touring the island
