I visited after Cotopaxi and the place is just beautiful. Don't get out of the path as this is a protected area. We even saw deer.

Huge lake with stunning view of the volcano Cotopaxi. Ideal place for birdwatching and a walk around the lake with views of numerous volcanos make the experience perfect.

A walk around the lake with interesting flora and fauna. Saw a few birds but no other wildlife apart from the wild horses. Great views of Cotopaxi.

This might be a more interesting place if you’re a bird watcher or looking for some quiet down time. We stopped by on our way to climb Cotopaxi, so it was a secondary thing. As you’ll read in the other reviews- it’s a nice flat stroll around a pond. Sometimes you will see wild horses grazing nearby or a group of horseback riders. Pretty. Serene.

If you are very lucky, cotopaxi is showing up, but Flora and fauna are always there. It is recommended to take your time, maybe 2 hours, to get a view of the andean teal and the andean gull, it Looks like a very sensitive area so please stay on the paths, take layers with you, when the sun is out it can Be really warm, 5 sec. Later real chilling. Very impressive that there is so much life in this Altitude. It makes always sense to Look out for condors,

This lagoon is at 4000 m and is surrounded by a lovely walkway. The views are amazing. See the wild flowers, the birds, and of course, the volcano. The walkway is flat and well worth a stroll.

A few minutes from the park entrance is the Limpio Pungo area. It is a lake and you can hike around it. If you take your time to learn of the local species, it can take up to 3 hours. It took us a little over two hours because our guide was showing us all the different species and explaining what are endemic, local, imported and all. There were plenty of birds with names I cannot pronounce or remember. Flowers I cannot capture all the beauty. Our local guide even had a book that pictured the species with scientific and English names. There were wild horses too that were brought in there. The balance of nature is powerful. This is part of Cotopaxi National Park. We were dropped off by our driver on a spot to begin our hike. We took our time strolling stopping and inquiring on just about every flora we encountered. There were many. They were having their super bloom and this purple flower Genciana carpeted the landscape. Shortly after, we drove to the south side to view the Cotopaxi mountain. The mountain peeked in and out of the clouds, just in time for us to take pictures.

This was such a great stop on our tour to walk around the lake and see on both sides the large volcanoes of the Cotopaxi National Park. There is a great little restaurant near the entrance of the park and we were able to order a great meal AND try guinea pig. So unexpected. Loved it there! On a windy day I can see it being cool and the altitude was a little much for some of our travelers who experienced headaches. The day we went it was around 15 degrees and no wind. Highly recommend.
