- VintageDMLexington, Massachusetts258 contributionsYes, VisitAbsolutely worth the visit. Make sure to hike the circuit. Great cafe on right side by chapel. More importantly, read the history of the lake as a destination for high, important concentration camp prisoners toward the end of WWII. I am a historian and had no idea of this place and story. Boats to rent. We visited at end of day in mid October so maybe 50 total visitors which is way less than the record of 17000 in one summer day.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- MadamJosephineMelbourne, Australia1,333 contributionsLovely but super busyThe lake is lovely, we arrived around 11.00am and the lower car parks were full, we then moved onto the parking closer to the lake, we were ushered up to the top carpark which was 10 Euros for the around 2 hour stay. It is very crowded and what makes it worse is that people bring their dogs on leads which can make for some dangerous entanglements. Yes theres a steep bit which also slows lots of people down as the track is narrow. As suggested before, walk anti clockwise around the lake and the worst of the crowd is gone after the steep section. At most it takes an hour to walk the Lake, but you can stop at the many beaches and there is shaded seating. Bring a rug and picnic basket to really enjoy it. We had lunch at the cafe next to the little chapel, self service cafeteria style format, not expensive or busy.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024
- kangeliniHong Kong, China1,472 contributionsTop location in the areaWonderful excursion and is very scenic. Looks exactly as shown in pictures that are uploaded here. We drove and only waited 5 minutes for a parking slot (arriving approx 11am on a weekday in July. Note that after 9th July you need to pre-book a parking space online). We have a young baby and it was very easy to walk around the lake carrying her in a baby carrier, is pretty flat all round. At the end we stopped for a quick bite at "Emma's Bistro", which is a nice spot facing the lake.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 July 2024
- Andrew BDubai, United Arab Emirates258 contributionsWorth a visitSo it is very touristy, but that also means it is well organized and has facilities. Personally I prefer a more secluded location with FAR less people. We arrived before 9am and parked fairly close for €8. The lake was quiet at that time. When we were leaving at 12pm it was mega busy. The lake is nice, but I’m not sure it’s worth all the fuss. We walked around, roughly 3km, in about an hour. Worth a visit, wouldn’t go back.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 July 2024
- Aussie_2012Melbourne, Australia962 contributionsUtterly amazing sight... but be warnedUtterly amazing sight... but be warned, there are a lot of tourists. We came to this lake about 9am in the morning and did not buy a parking ticket online which is highly suggested. Incredibly we chanced our luck and drove to the closet car park to the lake and discovered that there were spaces available HOWEVER this car park gets full very quick and we were told we were very lucky. The lake itself is spectacular and there is an easy walking trail that circumnavigates around it. There are instagram spots everywhere and a couple locations where people sunbath and swim in the lake. Near the car park there are several eating outlets, a hotel, gift shop and other buildings. There are boats to hire and other trails to venture on. Be warned though, when we left the area they had closed the road in and the car parks were completely full with car park attendants flagging people away. Apparently there is a shuttle bus service from the nearest town but not sure how effective it is. Also be warned that this place is very busy so don't count on tranquil surrounds. The scenery though (despite the crowds) is amazing!! Worth the trip but go early.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 August 2024
- Jill M9 contributionsAmazing! Here’s where to work and what to eatAmazing! Here are a few tips: 1. Pay for parking in advance using the following website. (prags.bz) We parked in P2 which is very close. P4 is even closer 2. As part of your parking ticket you can pick a voucher to a restaurant. Emmas bistro is on the water. We picked the farm shop (Lechnerhof shop). It was a 10/10 but things to note: It is not walking distance to the lake. (It’s right at the entrance when you drive in) We did the lake and had an Aperol Spritz at Emma’s bistro then after drove down to the Farm shop. (Again you can’t walk) It is a local farm with amazing animals, has a cheese shop, and a restaurant that serves great food! It was such a unique and quaint experience. We recommend!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2024

After have driven for two hours and a half from Belluno and when there were only 7 km to reach the lake a guy without any distinctive was blocking the route and avoiding us (and all the other cars) to continue. We went back and stop in the hotel Edelweise where "by chance" they proposed us to park there for €15 and take the van for other €5 per person (other 15 in our case × 2 to come back to the car). So magically I had to pay €45.
This made up business of which I became an unexpected (unexpected by me) client put me of a very bad mood to enjoy anything.

This lake is a must see when visiting the dolomites. The water is very peacefull, while renting a boat is expensive, it's worth the money. I think we were lucky we arrived right after corona lockdown so there were not many tourists.

This lake is so amazing just like Lake Louise in Canada. I recommend taking a boat on the lake although it is a bit pricey. I visited there in the afternoon and the scene is amazing at dusk. But make sure to bring warm clothes. It is a bit cold in the evening.

Yes as everyone says make sure to be early. We were there at 8 in the morning and that was perfect. No we weren’t the first but there were plenty of options to still make a photo without other people on it. It was still easy to get parking at the closest parking without reserving it upfront. Note that toilet at parking was still closed that early.
We made a walk around the lake and started on the left site were most don’t even come. There you also go a little bit up (path along the lake is very easy to walk) so you can grab some views and pictures from higher up. The views on the lake and the surrounding mountains are just beautiful. That early the sun doesn’t shine yet on the lake and therefore you can see the silhouette of the mountains on the still water. You can also start hikes at the lake. At the opposite side of the lake we made a pause and took a jump in the water. It is crystal clear with a lot of fish but to be honest it is quite cold.
Later when the sun shines on the lake it has a beautiful blue/green colour.
Lake and walk along it are large enough that even later on the day when there are a lot of tourist it doesn’t feel that crowded. That is only the case at the hotel side, most people don’t even reach the other side.
Near the hotel there are sufficient options to grab a drink or some food and you can rent a canoe but it is very expensive.

We visited (us plus a 2years child) as one of most popular tourist place to visiting in Trentino, for spending a family afternoon among the nature.
In any season we reccomand to book the access and parking by dedicate website, we chosen the P1 parking at 15€ cost for the entire day, P1 parking is 800mt far form main entry but near to pedastian path to reach it.
Path around the lake is easy to anyone and does not require a special equipment, we did with a "tracking" baby stroller since the way is not asphalted; however there is a part of path not so easy with baby stroller which need to pay attention since housed in the side of the mountain.
For all the rest place is fantastic and very recommend for pick nik and delicious day.

Gem in the heart of the Dolomites: this Alpine lake is very famous for its clear water and its reflections from the surrounding forests and mountains.
It is recommended to hike along the trail around the lake and get all the different perspectives.
It is difficult to get there in high season, as parking places are limited. Furthermore, this summer due to the Covid-19 countermeasures, you need to book in advance your parking or your access by bus.
We decided to reach it by walk on the nice hiking trail no.1 from Braies di Dentro.

Just wanted to give some practical tips! I read on here that it was highly recommended to arrive by 8am to avoid the crowds, and since we didn't have a car and the bus from Cortina wouldn't have got us there until much later, we took a taxi, which cost 140 euros (would have been 110 with another company), thinking it would be worth it to arrive early. (Note that the road in closes to cars from 9am, so you do need to arrive before 9am if coming by car!)
When we arrived at 8am, the sun wasn't above the mountains yet, so the lake wasn't really dazzling and at its best. There were a few people dotted around by 8am but it was still quite quiet. By 9am, more people were starting to arrive, but nothing crazy. For context, we came here on a Monday in August when the weather was pretty good. Later in the day, there were lots of people there, but because the path around the lake is a very big area, people were spread out enough that there would have been no issue with walking round it. The main crowded part was the area by the entrance where people were taking photos.
So we felt that we would have been better off just getting a bus and arriving from 9:30, for a lot less money!
A couple of other things - first, to hire a boat, you have to pay for a time slot and come back at that time (we had an hour to wait). So don't let the lack of queue make you think there isn't a wait! Plan to get your ticket a bit in advance. Also, when the wait time gets too long (over an hour perhaps), they shut the kiosk for a while (it shut some time between 10am and 11am).
Second, I assumed that with the popularity, the shuttle bus tickets to the lake would be sold out in the early slots in advance, but there were actually plenty of tickets still available the night before.
So in conclusion, unless you want to go to the lake when it's most serene with the least people, there's not an issue with going later (unless it's much busier on the weekend?) Do check bus times back if going back to Cortina, as they aren't frequent from Dobbiaco! But Dobbiaco is a pleasant place to spend some time waiting.

All reviews say to arrive early in the morning, well we couldnt fit it into early morning, so we decided to give it a try in the afternoon. We arrived at 4pm, parking right at the lake had available spots, so we parked directly there even though it is quite costly (10eur, if you arrive after 5pm 6eur only). Yes there were people, but thats what you expect when you go to visit one of the most iconic places. However, as you walk around the lake (we walked from the right side), you walk in shadows of trees, so even if it is a hot day, it is managable. On the other side of the lake, there was almost empty beach, so definitely if you want to swim, I recommend you reaching until there instead of staying at the entrance from the parking lot (it looks too touristy there as well). All in all, we didnt find the hype of arriving for sunrise as useful tip, so I would definitely recommend coming in the later afternoon. Just beware that the only bathrooms are at the beginning of the lake and are paid. Even if you consume in the restaurant (no bathrooms inside), you have to pay for bathroom that is right next to the restaurant.

I've been there with family and small childs. I suggest families to book the parking (around 30€) to reach the closest parking to the lake. There are 4 different parking (100m, 1Km, 3Km) something like that. Be sure to book in advance the parking 100m from the lake. Once there (already paid 3 days before) you just show your ticket and enter the parking. Then I got my special trolley (for 2 childs with big wheels) and the adventure started. Nice lake, nice water, astonishing view inside the mountains. Very nice place for families. We rent a row wood boat and spend 1h into the lake (30€). Usually there is a long queue but it was quite fast. Then with the trolley we walking on a side of the lake (be sure with trolleys you go on right side facing the lake otherwise left side is with stairs and not easy for trolleys). You go through a church and the reach (with a viewing path) the other side of the lake where you can make picnic and play with kids

In fear if overcrowding we had backup plans ready. Fortunately it proved not to be necessary, arriving around 10 on a Monday in late June. Of course there were other people, but it took nog longer than five minutes for us to get a boat.
The boats aren't cheap at € 20 for half an hour or € 35 for an hour, but it's a lot of fun and gives you another perspective on the surrounding mountains and the lake itself. On a hot sunny day a breeze can provide extra cooling. Life vests are available for those who want one, also in children sizes (even for both our 1- and 2-year old). The staff helps entering the boat, although they are easy to get into and out of, even with children.

Buongiorno,
Insomma potrei viaggiare senza ansia?😅
Grazie!
