This marvellous theatre has only 99 seats shared between its boxes and stalls. It was finished in 1808, under the Napoleonic occupation, and was initiated by nine local families. In the second half of the 19th century it was decorated by Cesare Agretti and in 1892 by his son Luigi, only 14 at the time, who painted the ceiling and the vaults, the boxes and the meeting room. After its construction, Monte Castello di Vibio became a capital of a large territory and enjoyed a particularly vibrant period thanks to the ideals of brotherhood and equality introduced by the new French administration. The original building has been restored several times. The latest works, after a period of neglect during the 50’s and 60’s, were finished at the beginning of the 90’s. The interior of the theatre, considered “the smallest in the world”, is made entirely out of wood in the “Goldoniano” style and represents a rare example of its kind, offering a harmonious and well thought out use of space for scenery, for the actors and the audience. Plenty of shows take the place each year: prose, opera, classical and jazz concerts. The theatre is also available for meetings and civil weddings, and can be visited on Saturdays and Sundays, between 25th December and 6th January, and in July and August everyday

We recommend to those who drive on the E45 between Terni and Perugia this detour of a few kilometers to discover a magnificent medieval village (Monte Castello), lovingly preserved -it seems a film set - and its pearl, the Concordia Theatre. You’ll fall in love with this harmonious nineteenth-century gem; the tour then (just 5 €) makes it even more... More

The Theater is the smallest in Italy and is full of beauty, class and history. This is a must see. Not only is the theater beautiful but the town is one of my favorite in Italy!

Well worth a visit sold as the oldest theatre in the world and I'm sure it is (99 seats) just a short 5 minute walk from the hotel.

A quaint building - loved the photographic display which gives a feel of the times! Lovely decorations - good that this building has been preserved. Worth a visit.

Very small theatre - with lovely atmosphere. I would love to go there when there is a show - but unfortunately there was none when we were there. It is small and it won't take long to see it (as it is the smallest Italian style theatre in the world) but it is worth a detour to go and see... More

This old theatre has only 99 seats and they are arranged in tiered boxes a bit like La Scala. It is still used intermittently for productions of various types, when we were there they had a classical music performance for one night only.

Just charming and a very informative tour which includes the history of the theatre and the villagers input to keep it running.
