A truly remarkable fort constructed during Spanish colonial times. We visited towards the mid afternoon, as the sun had already begun to set, as there are minimal shade options here (so come prepared). You need a total of 1.5 hours to see the museum and the entirety of the fort. A guide is a must otherwise you are effectively wasting your time not learning anything about the place. Our guides name was Julio and he was FANTASTIC.
Don't forget to go to the upper level and walk around as well.
Online it says it is closed M-W but at the time of writing this and visiting (May 3rd) it was definitively open most, if not all, days until 4 or 5pm.

During my recent visit to Honduras I spent the day with some friends who surprised me with this fort. If you do not like history you may not appreciate it, but I love history and end enjoyed every minute of my time here. The fort is well preserved and restored. Hire a guide to get the benefit of the history behind this place. Fort San Fernando was the main fort of the Spaniards on the Caribbean coast of Central America, but I leave the rest of the story for you to enjoy.

The San Fernando de Omoa Fort is a very well preserved piece of Honduras' colonial history. The views of the Sierra de Omoa mountain range from the second level are very nice. The museum in an adjacent building has some interesting artifacts. The grounds are very well kept, and Gerardo Johnson, the Regional Representative of IHAH, is passionate about his job and it shows in the way the site is run.

My husband and I travel to San Pedro Sula Honduras for the first time. We wanted to stay by the water so we rented a car and drove to Puerto Cortes. It is a port city that's more like a little town. The people are incredibly friendly and we had no issues with safety at all. It was raining pretty heavily the first day or night that we arrived and so we stayed at our hotel. We looked up things to do around us and the number one activity was to see the fort. It was a pleasant drive with beautiful scenery. We are arrived at the fort and paid the four dollar per person entry fee and also paid the 150 Lempia for a guide. Having a guide is really essential because you understand the history and they also can take your pictures! A beautiful forward with incredible views on both sides. Definitely a must see for anyone who comes this way.

The fortress is in great shape, and you can roam throughout most of it, letting your imagination fly. This is the most significant colonial military building in all of Central America! A nice museum next door will help you understand the history of Omoa from colonial times to present. This is a MUST visit site if you are in the area! Well worth a day trip from San Pedro Sula!

This is a really awesome place that I would highly recommend. My wife and I came here on a very hot day and were the only ones there. There is not a lot of info but you can see a lot, wander around and just enjoy.

The second biggest Fort in Central America is a impressive building . 32 big rooms , lots of Spanish and some English cannons laying around. Sadly the only attraction in all this empty rooms are the bats. Would be so great if they would use some of the rooms for a cafeteria or a ice cream shop. The ambiance is so cold and sterile. .

If you are in Omoa this is a place you have to visit, the fortress has a lot of history and is very interesting to learn how things happened during the conquista.
