We had a private tour of Heiligenkreuz Abbey when visiting Vienna. It is a real working Monastery so we saw monks throughout it. The history is rich with tradition. Worthwhile to visit!

We have visited as part of an organised tour, which I would not actually recommend as it was very rushed, however the monks are an active community who are giving tours too and are probably more knowledgeable than our guide was. At lunch there was...More

A beautiful monastery, combining almost 1000 years of different architecture. Famous for it's choir.

This is a Medieval Abby founded in 1113. It is a Cistercian monastery in the village of Heilingenkreuz in the southern part of the Vienna woods. It is the oldest continuously occupied Cistercian monastery in the world. Very impressive.

An obligatory stop in a Vienna Wood trip - really interesting and beautiful place. Ancient abbey is still breathing with the medieval air. Must see.

I visited here as part of an organised day tour from Vienna and it was wonderful. The detail in the architecture and stained glass windows was fabulous. We spent about an hour here and I'd absolutely recommend it if you appreciate art and architecture.

As I know it is not. You have to join the tour group and 6 people is the minimum. We will drive to visit that place ourselves.
