Take a boat tour through the Panama Canal into secret waterways to find hidden islands where Capuchin and Howler monkeys can be seen leaping in the trees above. Occasionally, they become curious of visitors and venture down to take a closer look. This Panama Canal tour provides a unique opportunity for viewing wild monkeys in their natural habitat. Other animals you might spot on this tour includes Two and Three-toed Sloths, Crocodiles, and turtles that are native to Gatun Lake. The boat ride to and from the island passes through the Panama Canal, giving you the chance to spot huge container ships during their passage across the world.

It was fun to get on a boat on Chagras River to watch for monkeys in the so-called Monkey Island in the rainforest. Lucky to see spider monkeys and tamarind monkeys. Our tour guide threw some fruits (banana and grapes) on the front of the boat and the tamarind monkeys were brave enough to jump into our boat to eat... More

This was sort of a let down. We booked it thru the hotel for about $38 per person. About 15 minutes up and 15 minutes back. Enjoyed more of the info on the Canal than the wildlife. We found out later that some other tours from the same place actually let the monkeys go into the boat and you feed... More

The guide and captain knew how to call the monkeys. When they made noises, monkeys came and took bananas. You will have 10 minutes or less to watch them. Very cute.

The boat tour stopped in 2 areas where we were able to see 2 kinds of monkeys, baby Caimans and a Jesus Christ lizard. Very cool if you are an animal lover! Remember to take bananas with you!

Has a terrific time. We arrived minutes before the tour started and were booked immediately. We took a small bus to the dock where we boarded a boat (with life vests) for our tour. Our tour director explained everything and we pulled up to the island and saw the different types of monkeys. They will come right on the boat... More

We took this boat trip to see the Monkeys. So firstly, note that it is in Gamboa closer to the city than Gatun Lake, where most of the searches in Google or Trip Advisor come up but its about 1 hour from Panama City/Playa Bonita area vs. 2+ hours to Gatun. The resort you leave from is beautiful for sure.... More

To clarify rightcoastgirl's previous review, I think she did a boat tour with a different company. This specifically is related to the monkey boat tour with Gamboa Rainforest resort, which is $37 per person, as another has mentioned. They call it the Gatun lake trip, since there is no guarantee of seeing monkeys. I really wanted to see monkeys and... More

This trip can be overrated. It is an amazing thing to see the monkeys up close and for the most part you do. I do recommend as others have commented that you go first thing in the morning. There are quite a variety of monkeys - capuchin, tamarind, and howler monkeys. Make sure you use a reputable company because the... More

We were able to have a private tour that included a boat tour and then on to Monkey Island. Seeing the monkeys in their natural habitat was fascinating. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the monkeys and their environment. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Panama.

One hour - $37 and well worth it. Say three different kinds of monkeys. They came on the boat and jumped around the top of the boat to investigate all the visitors. Good fun!
