This trip should always be taken by people visiting Madeira. My advice is to book a small mini bus tour - it goes more slowly. Take the views on board throughout the trip. The viewing area at Pico dos Barcelos has been very well constructed...More

The village was quiet, but the views were insane, and definitely worth the visit! There is a 'miradouro' above the village and I very much recommend visiting there too!

We took a half day tour with a taxi driver who took us to some interesting points in Madeira, and we stopped where we had a beautiful view of the Valley of the Nuns. Marvels!

This dizzying destination is, apparently, the s[ot where local nuns fled to, with Funchal's women and children, whenever bloodthirsty pirates stopped by for a spot of rape and pillage. Old sea dogs would have nochance of sniffing out prey in this muntainous but magnificent terrain....More

We came there for lunch (1-2 p.m.). The sun was shining, the clouds were under the feet :) So, try this part of the day, but anyway it's hard to guess the weather ir Madeira. You should be ready for anything

As indicated in other comments, if you just want to "visit" the Nuns' Valley, principally Eira to Serrado and the road between it and Funchal, then you can do this and other things in one day. However, if you also want to... More
