The drive to the village is a bit narrow but now with the new tunnel it is fine. The views are out of this world! If you want to be wowed go there.

Take a bus from Funchal and go to the Nun`s Valley. You`ll see steep, very steep hills with little villages on the steep edges and terraced fields. It`adramatic and impressing landscape. You can climb and walk down a steep path from the top of a hill to a little village. The walk is challenging but worth it. When you come... More

As I went there in the end of November, top mountains are mostly rainy even though Funchal was warm and sunny. I took a bus number 81 from Funchal to get there. I must say all bus drivers in Madeira are amazing. They drove in so narrow and steep roads and were so patient with tourist drivers. The bus stopped... More

Quick stop on a tour and it was breathtaking, the walk to the viewing point is worth the brief effort, but not for vertigo sufferers! I imagine that if you were young and fit and had enough time to walk the route it would be one to tell the grandchildren, we just got back into the bus and carried on... More

We had an organised trip here on a minibus. The whole experience was totally fabulous. The rainbows, views, the wonderful atmosphere - just lovely. We had a coffee, roasted chestnuts and biscuits that were a combination of cake, bread and biscuits. We loved our morning, it rained at the top of the mountains and we had blazing sunshine at the... We stopped her as part of a tour with Up Mountain Madeira. When we arrived, it was clody, but our guide (Nico) suggested we be patient. As though he had a "fade control", the valley appeared in sunlight, and a few minutes later disappeared again. The whole time there was music from a local church in the valley. Very moving!

We took a half day trip with Book-it-here ! And had a very enjoyable time. John Richard was our tour/ driver / guide and he is just lovely. The weather was kind and we only had a short shower and managed to see the vistas down to the ocean and up in to the mountains. Ideal for a morning or... More

We went on a trip to the chestnut festival on a mini coach. Had a great driver who explained everything about the festival to us. The views were absolutely stunning the atmosphere was great and lots going on with stalls and eating places and film getting dressed up in festive clothes. The church had a service going on and the... More

If you have a lot of free time you can go there. The route is very diffcult, rely on local drivers, don't use your rented car!
