About
This historic and beautifully manicured botanical garden is tucked in the countryside of the remote São Miguel Island off the Portuguese coast. Parque Terra Nostra features species from around the world and boasts miles of alleys where you can stroll at your own pace, amid grottos, ponds, and lots of topiary. Don’t miss the chance to dip in the park's hot springs, which are naturally at a steady 95 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, for an utterly relaxing experience. Wear a dark-colored swimsuit as the sulfur-rich waters of the pool may leave stains. – Tripadvisor

Map a necessity but beware some paths are closed due to construction
We visited this park with our tour group near the opening time of 10:30 AM. We only had 1 hour and 30 minutes in the park, but we could have spent much more time here. My wife and I first swam in the large thermal swimming pool. We hd been advised to wear a dark swimsuit as a lighter colored suit might become stained in the orangish-brown water. There were two sets of steps to enter the pool, and we discovered that the pool was warmer near the two jets of water pumping into the pool. During our visit in July, the smaller pools were not available (construction), and we were told that new dressing / showering / changing facilities are being built. These new facilities are greatly needed especially for the women as the line to shower and to change became quite long as the morning progressed. There were only 3 showers and 4 changing stalls. Our tour guide picked up garden maps at the entrance, and we were glad that we had them. The Camellias were not blooming so we skipped that garden. We thought we were correctly managing our time, but the path we had planned to take to get back to the swimming pool and then exit the park was closed due to the construction. We then had to back track to get to a path that allowed us to exit. We were pleased to discover that many of the garden paths could be walked in shade.

    Great gardens and hoy pools
We arrived at 10:30 when the park opened and got in no problem. We bought tickets at the gate. Parking is on the nearby streets. There were very short waits to use the bathrooms and change rooms. The pool is very relaxing but 5 feet deep so short people will have to swim. The gardens are very lovely

    Obligatory stop
This is a must see in Furnas. I went on a Saturday morning right at 10 and there was a line, although it moved fast. 10€ to enter. It’s definitely unique. The brown color took me a minute, but it’s very warm and peaceful. As a short person, you do have to swim to the different points/the little middle island. Don’t wear jewelry or a favorite light colored bathing suit. I’d be happy to go back for another dip.

a magically beautiful experience for 10 euros without a time slot!YOU must go and find out by yourself
The park is beautiful and also a bit magical, despite the fact that people complain about renovation work and that they have to make it cheaper for that now, you should not let that influence you!! It is absolutely worth it! The changing rooms and showers and toilets are well maintained, take care only for an old bikini because the water can discolour your swimwear and also some colors of hair. I could have spent days here and will book the hotel next time. Read the history before you go, it is very interesting, the park is a must see and the entrance is a joke at 10 euros without a time slot! Parking is always possible in the surrounding streets. For me 10 out of 10.

    Lovely
Beautiful! Though we did not ourselves swim in the hot springs on our visit, they look beautiful and so intriguing with the iron color. The gardens are beautiful - enjoy a leisurely stroll admiring all that is there. The bath houses are a bit sad and dated, but new ones are being built which promise to be large and modern.

    Well worth it.
I can't quite believe that people think this place either isn't worth it or is too expensive. Really? It's a lovely botanical garden coupled with a lovely warm brown pool. All for 10 euros. What are you on holiday in the Azores for if you don't think this is good?

    It's a beautiful park
A beautiful park that is worth a visit. It feels like you are in a tropical garden with lush greenery and palm trees, various ponds, a grotto, a stream with bubbling yellow thermal water, over which steam rises. Finally, you can relax in the thermal pool with yellow water. The water is quite hot, especially in the waterfall areas for massage. There are shower and changing areas, though spartan in their organisation, but quite adequate for their function. A shower is desirable, as the skin is also yellow after bathing :). I do not recommend a white bathing costume. :)

    Mineral pool and Botanical Gardens
We took a soak in the pool and the mineral waters were warm but not as hot as a hot tub. We worked our way across the pool to the spouts where the hottest water flowed into the pool. The hot after helped to soothe my wife’s back. Bring a dark coloured swim suit as the waters appear dirty but they are not. Once the suits are rinsed out they are clean. Bring a towel and there are no lockers to store your clothes while you are n the pool. We walked through the Botanical Gardens which were nice but not very many flowers at this time of the year, the spring would be a better time to visit the gardens.

    An interesting experience
The main attraction of this park is the large hot pool it contains. It isn't very hot but, because of its size, it doesn't feel crowded. Furnas is a navigation nightmare and finding parking is not trivial. Also the park closes early (1630 at this time of year). The changing rooms are being rebuilt, and the temporary changing rooms and toilets are completely inadequate. Probably unworkable at the busier times of year.

    GORGEOUS Park!
Parque Terra Nostra may be one of the most beautiful parks / botanical gardens I have been to worldwide - and the floral was not even in full bloom! I cannot imagine how gorgeous it gets when the flowers pop! There is/was some work being done around the park, but with minimal disruption and did not impact our visit. The two geothermal jacuzzies were closed, but the main pool was open. We were staying at the Terra Nostra hotel - as guests we had complimentary access to the park 24/7. While it was neat to see the main geothermal pool during the day, it was busy. We went out as a family after dark around 8 pm and we were the ONLY 4 in the water - it was truly magical! Honestly, I see this as a MUST do while on the island. I think if you do not visit, you have missed out and done yourself wrong!

We visited the park in the morning just after reserving a table for lunch at the Restaurante Terra Nostra.

The park is so big and amazing! Get lost int it and be amazed! There is a lot to see so make sure you have a lot of time to explore it. There are lots of beautiful flowers, big trees and interesting plants. The landscaping is also really nice. You can also discover some ponds, lakes and streams.

After exploring the garden, we had lunch at the restaurant and head back to take a dip at the brownish water of the big thermal pool. It is at the middle of the garden and the highlight of the place.

The water is really relaxing and warm. Perfect for the weather as it was fresh with a bit of rain. Make sure you got old swimwear though as the water will stain your clothes.

Aside from the big thermal pool, there are also small thermal pools hidden behind some plants and bushes opposite the changing rooms and restrooms.

It is a relaxing place! We spent the whole day there.

An amazing day.

Practicalities: parking in roads near park is free; google parts and it takes you to main gate, tickets from the booth near Terra Nostra Garden Hotel, a short walk from parking. €10 per adult, you can enter and leave park on one ticket all day, last entry 1600, closes at 1700

Walking round the gardens takes 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace. Ponds, grottos, topiary, flowers, trees, stepping stones and bridges make a great walk for all ages. Gardens are stunning and lots of shade

Thermal springs within the park at no extra charge. There are 2 small hot baths / jacuzzis in shady woodland, and close by a large circular pond, deep enough for swimming. Hot around the edges where hot fountains pour in, shaded bits from massive trees all round the edge

There’s a row of changing rooms and one outside toilet

Water will dye your costume and hair, so no pale colours it won’t wash off. Gives a good fake tan.

The adjacent Garden hotel is a beautiful setting and great food - terrace bar for burgers, salads and sandwiches can’t be booked, restaurant sophisticated Art Deco setting but very friendly. Food great in both

Highly recommended, would happily go back as didn’t see it all in one day…

I needed other reviews here and did not plan to visit the baths. Instead we visited Poca da Don Beija, which I highly recommend. But we enjoyed the park immensely. The admission fee is not cheap, so I recommend planning on a visit around a meal time, where you can do a little exploring, grab a meal or snack at the restaurant or one of the snack carts, and then do a little more exploring. Great place for kids to run around. See the frogs on the many lillipads, climb up the spiral stairs in the flower garden for a great picture, and enjoy long walks in the shade under the trees. If I were to come back, I would bring a blanket and a book.

Park is beautiful, no doubt in that. However, my grade for it would be Medium since I believe that price of 8 euros is too high.

If you visit the park and don't want to take a bath in a thermal pool, you will pay the full price anyway. We walked throughout the park and saw everything in 1 h. The island of Sao Miguel offers so much vegetation and landscapes to see for free, that 8 euros for 1 h walk in a park is too much.

You get a 20% discount in the restaurant but the restaurant is so expensive that it doesn't really pay off.
I paid 4.50 euros for a lemonade..

We visit in August 2020, it had just open its hot water pool and jacuzzies. It a Wednesday afternoon, it had few people, there was a limit imposed but it was far way from the limit. The hot water pool had no more than 20 people, it was very good and relaxing, it is really hot!! It really ruins your bathing suit. Please be aware that due to the restrictions you cannot change at the park, only the WC is open and you cannot change you clothes there. The thermal hot water jacuzzies are also open, but with restrictions, only one family at a time for 10 minutes. So the queue can get very big…. We were lucky since it was mid week and just in the first days. Hopefully thins will get better …. On the other hand, to have the jacuzzi all for yourself is great, one in a time experience!!!! The park is amazing, the gardening architecture, the rare plants, the small caves, the nenuphars, …..

Terra Nostra Park is a paradise! We’we been there now twise due the park is so huge and full if amazing walking paths to explore, that even now we feel, we didn’t see it all. The vegetation is wild, colourful and well cared. The ”official” walking trail (about 3km) is easy way to see the big picture, but we recommend to step out of it and explore the small paths, see the surprising spots… watersprings, ponds, flowers, trees…much more than we ever expected.

The thermal pool is a must. The water is warm and rich of good minerals…just for relaxing and refreshing your body as well as your mind.

In the restaurant close by we enjoyed wonderful meal and nice drinks with very pleasant service. Pricing is in balance with quality of menu; don’t really break the budget. After two full days at Terra Nostra Park we are thinking that we might still go back there; we have a few days still left in this amazing island.

We spent about an hour and a half strolling the grounds. With your admission fee, €8.00 per adult, you can use the thermal pool. They have a good map and guide to get you around they extensive grounds. We were here in early March, and the flowers showings were wonderful. We saw very few people, and thoroughly enjoyed our tie there.

We visited here on a day when the weather was very mixed. Even though we had quite a bit of rain it didn’t spoil our day. The gardens are amazing, different every time you turn a corner. The streams with the Koi carp amused us, the fish follow you, hoping for food.
The highlight of the visit was the warm water pool. Ok, it doesn’t look great, but don’t be put off. It’s a really nice sensation just floating about in that hot water. Make sure you take a swimsuit, but not a new one, as the colour is difficult to get out. This park was one of the highlights to our Azores trip

Refined park with incredible variety of plants, don’t miss a stroll along the walking trails. Hot springs are just divine!
Due to Covid-19 showers and dressing rooms are not available. Water may color your bathing suit as well as towels and clothes (since showers are closed), I would recommend to avoid white and light colors.
