Red Beach
About
Visit the Red Beach near Akrotiri for surreal, otherwordly landscapes, where the blue waters and skies contrast against cliffs of red lava rock. The beach is a five-minute hike down to the shore. Here, you can rent an umbrella and a sunbed, or snorkel to explore the underwater formations and fishes. There's even a nudist-friendly section at the northern end of the beach. At the top, there are canteens for snacks, plus awesome views of the beach below. Visit in mid-May for lower rainfall, fewer crowds, and comfortable temperatures. Red Beach is often included on tours of Santorini and luxury caldera cruises. – Tripadvisor

Interesting beach with a backdrop of red volcanic cliffs. Good swimming too. However it’s a bit of a scramble over a rocky path but if we managed it at 70, then I’m sure others younger than us will too! We weren’t disappointed! Good car parking too.

It's a beautiful beach and a nice view from the trail. We drove and parked in a lot and walked part of the trail. Didn't walk all the way down to the beach as I didn't want to walk over rocks. It's worth a look.

Visited April 2023.

The red beach is located on the south side of the island of Santorini and is a popular photo spot. We heard it is recommended to wear an old swimsuit or something you aren't worried about dying red if you do go down to the beach. We didn't go down to the beach when we went because it was quite steep from what we could tell and we felt the view from the cliff was best. Driving here would probably be the best way to see it and there was plenty of parking when we went in March but there are some tours that go here too. The parking area is near a white church and there are some large red boulders to look at over here too.

What took away from the experience is that it is very popular and we felt people were leaving garbage where they shouldn't. We didn't spend long here because there wasn't really a place we wanted to hang out because we didn't want to get our clothes dirty by having a seat. We still felt it was worth a quick stop and we are glad we saw the red sand of Santorini.

Average beach, very busy, very hot to walk over the cliff and down from the carpark. Definitely take your swim stuff as you will need to cool down once there. Disappointed by the rope on the beach and the poor barriers on the cliff top. A man was playing loud musical instruments too on the top of the cliff which I found a shame if you wanted to enjoy a peaceful beach. Don’t get conned by the man charging to park at the end of the road, you can drive right up to the beach and use the free car park.

Positive note we loved the sea it was warm and easy to walk into as small pebbles and refreshing on a hot day.

Quite hard to find, but worth it for the amazing view.
Do not visit here if you have walking problems. It’s a rather dangerous walk down to the not so red beach . No hand rails and is very uneven. So wear sensible footwear and also water shoes as the water is very stony. The loungers were €10 each . The sea is great but very stony .

Red Beach is a bit off the beaten track but we were able to see it from our boat. Most Santorini cruises will take you past this part of the coastline, where you will see Red Beach, White Beach and Black Mountain.
Red Beach was certainly striking. Sheer red cliffs create a lunar-like landscape and the sand, combined with volcanic ash and oxidised iron, has a distinctive dark ochre-red color. Looking at the cliffs from the boat, I had to keep glancing down to the tiny ant-like people on the beach to get a sense of scale and to realise just how huge the cliffs are.
I was keen to see this part of the coastline and the cruise was a very easy way to do this. Would I have gone to the trouble of visiting Red Beach on its own? Probably not. We only had three days on Santorini but even if we had longer, I’m not sure that this would be the beach I’d choose to spend several hours, relaxing on.
It is worth noting that there is at least some risk of landslides and rockfalls. Local authorities posted warning signs after s significant rockfall in 2018 (the rockfall was still visible from the boat).

Clear water , no waves . The sand is not actually red red , but more a dark red-brown with black. Would visit again . The biggest problem is the road . It starts OK but as it gets down it becomes more tight , and the last part is almost like a big slope . Also the last part is not paved . The best time to visit it is in the late afternoon , when not many people are coming . The best way to drive back up is to go full speed until the road isnt in a slope anymore . ( sorry for any mistakes )

There is a lovely walk from the parking area to get to the beach.
The beach is not very long but it is stunning.
During our visit, there were lots of sailing and power boats visiting.
Well worth a visit.

Did a circular walk from Akrotiri and walked along red beach on the way, early in the morning when no-one was about. What a huge disappointment. Even empty from a distance, the beach looked nothing special. Having walked the beach it just got worse close up. Tatty sunloungers and umbrellas, that apparently cost 20 euros to hire. As usual in the area there was litter and general dilapidation. The walk back to the hill was very strenuous even at a cooler part of day.

I have seen many beaches in my time and this was one of the worst.
