    Beautiful gardens
I loved it here. An amazing variety of plants and beautiful gardens to wander around which took well over 90 minutes to see properly. Then a little tour inside the house where the guide had a really good knowledge of the many decorative items there. A very interesting visit. Cost 2,000 rupees - a bargain. Take mosquito repellant!

We took a tuk tuk ride out to brief gardens. We rang the bell to be let in and wandered around the beautiful gardens up to the main house, where we were met by our guide who took us on an interesting tour, explaining all the art work and the smaller court yard areas of the house. Well worth a visit a hidden gem!

    Gem of a garden
A hidden gem - loved it! Beautiful garden and house with lots of interest - a lot of architectural thought and a lifetime's work have gone into it. I love the fact that the house and garden was left to the Head Gardener on Bevis Bawa's death. A labour of love. I love the fact that so many Hollywood stars from the 40s/50s came and stayed there - the parties they must have had! Very interesting way to spend a couple of hours if you are in the Bentota area.

Small but interesting garden, with chance to look around the bungalow as well. We were only there about an hour. Take mosquito spray

The guide is rude to Sri Lankans. Even though we paid Rs. 2000 for the house and garden, the moment we stepped into the house he shouted across the hall that we had only paid for the garden. Even after showing the ticket the guide did not apologize. Complained to the Manager who made a weak apology and excused the guide because he was "busy". It's obvious they have no regard for locals. Note other reviewers also mention this rudeness.

A beautifully well maintained garden, must visit. Surrounded by trees and flower plants, a great place to escape from busy city.

I am fascinated by the works of the Bawa brothers and am glad I came by to see this place. If you too are a fan and have read all about either or both, this is worth the visit.

The whole experience is not for all, especially if you are expecting a whimsical, well-kept garden.
The outer areas are wild and free, which is what I expected, and not manicured.

If are on your own, you may get a little intimidated going around, since you don’t know where you are going. (employee just takes your money and have you enter the gate).
However, wherever that may be, in the end, you do end up back at the house.

The house, its closer grounds, wonderful to frolic around.
I do recommend wearing good ol' sneakers if you plan to really explore the whole place.
Also yes, do bring bug spray.

I really wish this place all the best, as it represents the “renowned horticulturalists and landscaper”.
One way to start is by being consistent, improve staff and product skills.

Overall the right attitude is still key.

A hidden gem, that should not be missed by anyone interested in gardening/plants or nature. It is amazingly beautiful, with a mixture of tropical forest/park and a European style garden, plus the house itself. The forest setting also meant bird song. We were unable to stay for the tea and cakes available at the main house, but that would have made a very nice conclusion. Surprised that not all reviewers give it top marks, but as for all gardens one aspect could be the time of the year of the visit. In early February it was certainly wonderful. Photos show that among house guests in the past were both Edward VII, Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier.
