A unique hidden monastery in the middle of Transylvania. It is full of charm and mystery and it's a forgotten part of the history. The church is still standing and the ruins of the monastery surrounding it, gives the place a special charm and magic.
It's definitely worth a visit. The entrance fee is only 10 RON and it also includes a visit to a museum with local clothes and customs.

We've been to many ruined monasteries, but this one is really unique ...A place full of history, a place filled with mistery... The small town of Carta rests in Southern Transylvania and is easily accessible by car. It is located approximately 50 km from Sibiu.
We highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

One of the rare monasteries in Transylvania without walls surrounding it. Of course it has no defense walls: it was founded by Cistercian monks! But once you go up in the tower you can see the real walls: The beautiful and tall Carpathian mountains. I truly recommend this place and I strongly suggest going up in the bell tower even if you are afraid of heights - for me it was terrifying, yet it was worth it.

A place full of history, a place filled with mistery and beauty. It is located only about 3 km from the main road 45 minutes away from Sibiu. If in the area definitely visit. During low season ( winter) the key is at the parochial home, but there are phone numbers to call and have the door opened.

This is a calm and well kept place. Do not expect anything spectecular, but it is a wonderful spot for a break during your journey. The old church interior creates its own special atmosphere.

It used to be a big monastery, now there are some ruins and a smaller church with a tower. With your low-price ticket you can see also a small museum about the historical life on the transsylvanian countryside.
If you are in that area it is worth it to make a small extra run and visit this nice place.

A surprising small village, very colorful and clean. The place can be visited in less than one hour. The big surprise is the restaurant. Being part of Albota trout farm, a famous restaurant in the area, you can feel the taste of romanian restaurant.

This place is one of the most impressive monuments of Romania, and yet it is nearly unknown. If you love old buildings or are just a Game of Thrones fan, go to Carta and see this extraordinary place.
