The walk was challenging because of the altitude but was tailored to us. The park was beautiful even with low cloud. We had a private tour with driver and guide with a lovely lunch included. A relaxing day despite bad Sunday traffic.

We had a day trip here from Bogota. Be warned, the birdwatching is not easy!!! This is cloud forest with high/dense trees covering lots of the area. The path down was steep, damp and very slippery, making it very hard work, especially when craning one's neck up into the trees to spot birds. The flatter area at the bottom was lovely and relaxing, making it easier to watch the birds, and the meal in the restaurant was very nice.

This is great nature place a little outside Bogota. The park is beautiful and has an awesome variety of birds including humming birds. Excellent restaurant in the park with lot of food options. Be prepared for steep hiking but its worth it. We went on a Friday and it was peaceful and quiet and hardly any other people around. Trails are well marked as well. Highly recommend it! But dont trust the traffic on the way; it took us 4 hours on the way back to Bogota due to an accident on the road.

This was our favorite thing that we did when we were in Bogota. It's such a beautiful place and since it's Colombia, everything was super cheap. The park entrance fee was around $US 4.50/person. We hiked with our family of 5 down the trail to the Refugio, a charming lodge with great views of the surrounding cliffs. The trail includes parts of an old Inca trail and is a magical, if somewhat slippery walk through misty jungle forests. The Refugio area has lots of semi-tame wild llamas that our kids enjoyed. There is a nice restaurant in the Refugio where we had lunch. The prices are very reasonable. Definitely go for the lunch special, which includes main dish, salad, dessert and drink for around $US 5.00. They also have ziplining near the Refugio for around $6.00, which our kids loved. Sadly, we didn't get there early enough in the day to hike some of the other trails there. Our favorite thing was taking horses back up the trail to the park entrance, costing around $US 9.00/person. It was a wild ride, and definitely worth it to save us out-of-shape gringos from having to walk all the way uphill at 8000 feet elevation. It was a bit of a trip to get to the park, as it was maybe an hour and a half ride from our hotel in Chapinero. A driver was recommended to us and he stayed the whole day and drove us for $COP 50,000 each way, plus his entry to the park and lunch. You could negotiate a deal with a taxi driver or with Cabify, or take the park's shuttle, which they offer on the weekend for $COP 6000/person to/from the Terreros Transmilenio station in Soacha. Otherwise, you could get stuck out there, as phone reception is spotty. It's definitely worth the trip to see another side of Colombia outside the big city of Bogota.

Very nice natural reserve in the outskirts of Bogota. Perfect for bird watching and exploring a natural high mountain forest. There are 2 good quality restaurants and a small hotel inside the reserve.

I visited this park yesterday with my wife and kid. It was a wonderful experience walking its paths full of nature. Entrance fee is not expensive and food its good, qulity and reasonable prices. We arrive around noon so we have limited time to do all the things that we wanted to do. Reason to comeback!!!

I along with my friends visited Chicaque on 17 March 2019. We travelled from Bogota booking an Uber. It took us almost an hour and 10 mins to reach there and cost 30000 COP. The park entry fee is 15500 COP. It is a 3km downhill trek from the entrance to a place called Refugio. We trekked down but we saw people hiring car and horses which I understand need to be booked in advance or subject to availability. The trek took us good 1 hour 15 mins. On the way, at a slight deviation of 300m, there is Pico, which is a peak which is good to take pictures of the valley. The path to Pico is quite narrow. Once you reach Refugio, it is a scenic place with a fantastic restaurant. You also have the option to camp at Refugio by renting out the camping equipments. From Refugio, there is a waterfall which is 3km away. Due to time constraints, we couldn't go there. At Refugio, you can opt to do tree climbing and zip lining. Both accept entry until around 3.30PM. We did only zip line which cost 17100COP. The 340m zipline connecting two hills was a fantastic experience. Latest by 4pm you have to leave Refugio and start your trek back to the main entrance so that you can reach the entrance by 5pm, the park closing time. Since it is an uphill trek, slow walkers are recommended to leave well in advance because the trek back is taxing.

Coming back from Chicaque is an issue as Beat or Uber doesn't work there, mobile network availability is another problem. So it is recommended to make an arrangement in advance to go back from the park or ask the dropping vehicle to wait for you till evening. We were dropped off by a car from the park at Soacha, the place where public transport Transmilenio starts. By Transmilenio it is super cheap to get to Bogota. You have to change three buses and takes almost 1 hour 15 mins, but faster than taxi considering the traffic (Transmilenio has its dedicated traffic lanes which are not affected by traffic).
I would not recommend this place for people who do not enjoy a trek and have physical difficulties in walking a lot and compromising slopes

If you like trekking this is the place to go! But keep in mind that will be challenging (not in extreme but just be prepared if you are a sedentary person)
The nature, the view it’s great!
You don’t need to pay a tour, because the walking paths have signs so it’s impossible to get lost (maybe you’d have to walk more in case you take the wrong turn, but that’s it)
The ticket it’s like 7 USD and there are two restaurants: one in the entrance and you will find the next one after walking for 2 hours
There is parking without additional cost
Definitely a must go in Bogota

An amazing landscape in the Cloud Forest 🌳Chicaque, place with more than 400 species of reported birds near Bogotá-Colombia🇨🇴. In a normal day is possible to see more than 60 different species.

We read the great review and decide to take a day trip there. It's really disappointing.

To have a better experience, we hired a guide. According to her, it's a very good day in terms of weather. However, there is not a lot scenery to see. Besides the place that everyone took the photo, the trails are mostly hidden with very little to see. Very few trail marks -- I could easily lost without the guide.

In terms of birds, yes there are few birds. But they are all small birds in the dense forest. I can't imagine people coming here to view birds.

I would not recommend this park.
