It was a windy, but bright sunny morning when our tour bus stopped here. It is a lovely spot offering some nice walking areas and stunning coastal views. Definitely worth taking some time and exploring. The arctic tern chicks had mostly fledged and left but the birds still made it clear we were not welcome! They were noisy but not aggressive. Some great photo opportunities here.

This place is a not a must... probably one of the stops one can easily eliminate on their itinerary, but considering this "not as rich area of Iceland" when it comes to traditional stops/attractions you can definitely take this short stop to stretch your legs, catch fresh air before continuing along the pretty long drive along the Eastfjords
The lighthouse itself is no different or "more special" than any other lighthouse we had seen around Iceland, and there are pleeeeeenty of them... the area however has pretty nice views of mountains and shoreline - depending on a weather the day you visit you may see more... or less... but then again driving around Iceland is great views and landscapes all the time!
TIP: It's worth mentioning that the road you want to take to this parking lot is right after a hill on a curve of coming from the west, and right on the curve facing the downhill if coming from the east - in either way visibility is very poor + there are sheep in the area... slow down and be careful as it's a somewhat blind spot... the super short road that connects Road 1 to the parking lot is a bumpy dirt road but super short so not a big deal

This lighthouse don't look much to attract visitors, but the landscape and coastline around it is indeed very scenic! On the clear morning that we were there, we can see for miles, towards both the east and west. The eastern side appears much more rugged with eroded cliffs and rocky outcrops. Where else, the western view is a long curving bay bordered by black sandy beach; this view is quiet magnificent.
If there is anything that deters a visit, it is the approach road to the light house. There is no signage of the branch road to the light house as it takes off at an uphill corner along Route 1. This "road" leading to the light house is unpaved and basically a rocky bone shaker where you can break the driveshaft if you are not paying attention to the undulations ahead.

Beautiful stop along Road 1 about 30mins past the village of Höfn towards the East. Impressive black beach with sometimes wild and roaring waves. If only the stupid people could stop driving offroad! Witnessed several times tourists in Dusters driving through the sand. Why do people have to be so destructive and cannot stick to the rules??

Saw this landmark up close and really enjoyed the rugged views from the base of the lighthouse. The mountain behind the lighthouse is amazing to behold as well.

Pull off Ring Road for 5 minutes or less to stretch your legs and see the lighthouse and surrounding beach. It's very windy up here. Not much info on the lighthouse and can't go inside or up to the top.

Hvalnes Lighthouse was a good stop along the Ring Road in east Iceland.it is a nice area to park and walk around to get some sea scape pictures and walk to the nearby black sand beach.

A small but pretty lighthouse. Easy to miss but it's really pretty. Amazing colors are a cool contrast to the mountains and hills around

Without question this stands as the most photogenic mountains in the country. Right off Rt 1 and east of Hofn, there is a small gravel parking lot near the lighthouse. The view is to the west - EPIC

A short (5 minute) detour to see a lighthouse up close and some amazing views.
The gravel road to the lighthouse is very bumpy and has a small blind corner. The parking area is good for a dozen cars unless there is a mid-sized tour bus blocking the way.
Nothing much to do here, since you can't go inside.
