First of all there are not signs showing the direction or even the existence of this precious site: if you haven't read or heard about it, you're not going to find out about it while on holiday in the area. It's in the town of...More

This place feels like it is off the beaten track for the most part. The times I have been here have not been busy and the walk around the site was peaceful and quiet. Plan on spending at least 90 minutes or more to walk...More

We were all alone the day we wandered around the ruins, imagining what it must have been like to live there 2,000 years ago, marveling at the building skills of those long-ago stone masons, and at the fact that some of their structres, like the...More

Being curious, we went to Paestum for the day. Yes very informative, smaller than Pompeii, the archaeology work is also active. It's not much to see, but the ruins of the temples almost complete give a better explanation than the ruins in Pompeii. My wife...More

Great opportunity to explore a site with remains of ancient Greece, Rome and then the medieval ruins above. Lovely views as well of the Cilento park and coastline.

Like others had already visited Pompeii and Herculaneum. But then travelled to Cilento for a week by the beach and so discovered Paestum and Velia. Velia is a beautiful country walk with ruins and history too. Strangely this is the least known of the four...More

Having visited Pompei and Herculaneum, I can honestly say that this place is just as interesting if not better and entry is only 3 euros. The remains of the disciple Matthew were found here many years ago which made it even more of a spiritual...More

A really wonderful archaeological site to visit in 2 hours. Atmospheric, with great views from the tower. Took so many photos of the beautiful gate (Porta Rosa). We visited in very early June, and it was already hot, so bring water and wear a hat.
