- Galina S9 contributionsCostas Apartments great for a beach stayWe stayed at Costas Apartments on Governors Beach, Cyprus, and can highly recommend them. The apartments are set in a purpose built building on the top of a small cliff, right by the beach. The apartments are in a good order and are well maintained and cleaned several times per week, which you don't always get with self-catering accommodation. The owners live on the ground floor of the same building and are usually there to greet you in the morning, offer a coffee or have a nice little chat if you fancy one. We really enjoyed their hospitality.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 February 2024

This is a handy beach if you are staying just outside and to the East of Limassol. The metalled road goes all the way to the beach and there is plenty of car parking. There is a range of bars and tavernas next to the beach with plenty of sunbeds & umbrellas to rent. There are free public showers and changing hut and the beach has a lifeguard. The sand is gently shelving into shallow water making this great for children. This beach is very popular with locals especially at the weekends.

Black sand, amazing white limestone rock formation and beautiful blue sea.
We dropped by on our way to Larnaca from Limassol. It is a nice spot for all nature lovers. There are restaurants and cafes to have a break there.

The beach is located between Larnaca and Limassol, it consists of several beaches, separated by a limestone mountain. There are sunbeds on almost all these beaches, but not a beach bar. There is a somewhat overrated restaurant above the beach, with a nice view. The water is clean, as in most of Cyprus, the entrance is smooth, the sand is soft, good. The sand is not as beautiful as in the east, in Ayia Napa or Protaras, but is darker in color. You can sacrifice an afternoon there.

I would like to point out that Governor's and the White Rocks site should not be confused.
Most of the photos shown are of White Rock which is really a very pretty site. To get there you can use Google Maps, there is parking right next to it.
The photos I put correspond to this site.
What to say about Governor's Beach: we turned around directly. There is a very small parking lot and the first sight we see is an oil tanker, so not a great view. Then looking to the right we see a huge factory with chimneys surely a refinery. So we turned around without asking for our rest.

Lovely setting and pretty beach. Looks lovely when the sun is just going down. The beach itself could be tidier though, maybe if people didn’t leave their rubbish or cigarettes lying around :/ there are small areas where there are no sun loungers and it is quieter, also more tidy and clean.

In my opinion nothing special. There are better beaches in Limassol than specific one.
Only interesting side of specific beach is the one with the big white rocks that is more wild.
Visited twice specific beach in front of Akti Sofroniou restaurant twice and beach is not so clean with some place full of rocks.
Believe that specific area become famous from the Fish taverns, but again in my opinion most of them are average as the beach!

this used to be a quaint little restaurant, nestled away in the beautiful quiet garden, with a nice little bay stretching in front of it...
go in july, and its a packed, loud, badly managed place, with terrible food, overpriced, zero customer service, and attitude by the waiters...
so sorry to have to write this, but you have lost us as customers akti sofroniou...
never again.

Grovenors BEach is defenitly a place to avoid if you love nature. The view is appalling overlooking a Powerplant and an oil refinery. Got the hell out of there.

Can you reach Governor’s by public transport?

I first went to governors beach in 1967. We had to drive across a ploughed field, park up hopefully under some trees and then scale down some cliffs. We always took our own drinks etc and usually there were only 3 or four couples on the beach

Agree fully with Me.Elias.I went with my family end-May or so, don't remember exact date though, and since your last but was in 1967,you should make another visit
