Overview
More
You might hear this garden before you see it; its delightfully eccentric owner,Anthony Hunte BCH, plays classical music throughtout the garden. this is the working end of old Castle Grant plantation, where sugar cane was once processed into syrup. Step through the gate and you'll soon tread on the old weigh bridge, where loads of cane were tallied. Just past the old stone outbuildings, where statues lurk among exotic plants, you'll find yourself on the lip of a great, hemispherical sinkhole in the limestone substrate. Steps lead down and paths branch out through an exquisite profusion of flowering plants, with towering trees around the edges. Both here and farther along the top are a series of small secret gardens, where you can sit to absorb the serenity and enjoy a picnic. Be sure to climb the upper level steps to Mr. Hunte's house, a transformation of the old stables. He'll invite you for refreshments-including his legendary rum punch or freshly made lemonade (for sale)-on his glorious, antique studded verandah overlooking the garden. If you're lucky, he'll tell you tales, and you will surely leave with some of your own. If you're driving, follow the red and white signs that read Hunte's Gardens, from all over the island. Or, come by taxi. If you take the local bus from the Fairchild Street Bus Stand in Bridgetown it's #5 Sugar Hill Bus - Bds$2 each way.

Hunte's Garden is an amazing, beautiful place. The food and drinks are great, and the garden is a tiny sliver of Eden. There is a beautiful Bechstein piano that the owner let me play briefly, and the grounds are really, really amazing. The gardens are...More

This sunken garden was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The classical music is a nice touch and the plants are wonderfully displayed.

It was excellent because the gardens were beautiful with atmospheric music and it was nice to go to a luscious forest instead of a beach. We even saw some humming birds! The owner Mr Hunte was very kind and we had a great time.

Probably the nicest garden I have visited anywhere in the world. As a man I normally follow my wife around slightly bored. Not in Hinges garden. It was dramatic, tranquil, interesting, vibrant and relaxing in one stunning package. If you visit Barbados you must go

After overdoing it in the sun the day before a trip to a shady garden with soothing music was a perfect antidote for our family. Greeted by the eponymous Mr Hunte at the entrance we descended into a lush verdant sinkhole with spectacular shrubs and...More

I think you could do both Hunte's Gardens and Harrison Cave in 1/2 day and do both of them justice. They are close together so driving time wasn't an issue. Personally, we rented a car so we weren't limited by a tour, and... More

We were in a hotel so took a taxi. From the ferry port it would be about 45 mins I think. Entrance details on Hunte’s Garden website. $15US as I remember. Hope this is helpful.
