Unforgettable - and a gorgeous walk.
The salt pans are just gorgeous and worthy of so much than the quick drive past that many visitors seem to give them. It is possible to walk all the way from the town to the gorge at Wied il-Ghasri and then on the Giordan lighthouse along the beach road and later the beaches themselves. It takes several hours but is well worth the effort. Buses are excellent on the island and reliable so it's easy to do this and a much better way in my opinion to see the island as you see much more on foot, really taking in the views and the atmosphere. You can walk among the salt pans in places getting up close to them for some stunning photographs, stopping off to buy some salt from one of the small sellers by the side of the road if you wish. For me this walk was one of the best things I did during my week here - an unforgettable day.

    MORE PHOTOGRAPHIC THAN INITIALLY THOUGHT
We encountered the salt pans during a walk. It is very hard work. They were not operational as we passed through. Some were empty, others holding some water. I was oddly reminded of the tanning vats in Fez looking at them.

Tasty salt we will enjoy along with the memories
Xwejni Salt Pans is a fun little stroll and we purchased some salt (enjoying it now whilst writing this review on fresh crusty bread with extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of their salt). Enjoy the photos attached to this review that tell the story. You'll have to buy their salt to taste it... .

Well worth seeing, especially when they are being worked in the summer
These were impressive to see and after we got of the bus it was a lovely walk out to see them past the Battery/ex nightclub and along the coast to there exposed coastal location. The only slight disappointment is that it is the wrong time of year for them to be being worked. We walked back into Marsalforn then and used the excellent local buses to continue of Gozo exploring. Remember to buy either day or the exploreflex tickets for discounted travel.

Very Interesting and you could also enjoy a swim in the beautiful sea! There are food trucks for a snack too!

A very enjoyable walk from Marsalforn along the sea front and back. Late May and the salt pans are still full of water but still interesting to see.

Visited whilst on the trackless train. Very interesting to see and seemed to be a lovely walk along the coast. The driver told us about the history of the salt pans and that the area is very good for divers

Always really interesting to see the salt pans and buy some fresh salt. It was a very windy day but that can't be helped.

Seeing and learning how they harvest salt is nice. You don't need to spend much time here to appreciate it. But stop by on your way to go swimming.
