We were brought here as part of a tour. It was interesting to walk around and see the machinery and to learn a bit about sugar cane production. A glass of poncha (not the best we had on the island) and a sliver of Madeira...More

This is a brilliant visit well worth the stop off with plenty to see if you like to see how they deal with sugar cane. A very short period of work but round the clock. The samples cost 2 Euro but well worth it. If...More

Alot of interesting history when visiting the sugar cane factory, would go to calheta beach daily but never visited the factory. Went in there as was intrigued what was in aguardente which is fire-water a Portuguese drink.

Really enjoyed the visit, tasted real Madeira cake which was nothing like what we are used to in the UK, it’s very like Christmas cake, really tasty. We also tried Poncha, a local drink, quite sweet & quite strong!

Stopped by for a short visit. Quiet place and free entry. Sold the local rum and offered tastings for only 0.60€.

Visited this distillery and enjoyed the self guided tour of the plant. Nice to see old machinery still in use. Plenty of old photographs and information around the site. Situated in a small village by the sea made for a pleasant hour or so.
