A fun and exciting way to spend an hour or so in the beautiful High County of North Carolina. Panning for gems at the mine is relaxing, while finding the actual uncut gems is exciting. Afterward, head to Facets of Roscoe just below the mine and have Matt show you what exactly you've found and how it can look when... More

Stopped in here for some gem mining. This was a much better experience than most other gem mines. The buckets are "salted" so you are sure to find something. Perfect for small kids or the young at heart. Get a large bucket and the whole family can have fun for atleast an hour. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Recommend... More

My boys loved looking for the gems. Reasonably priced, staff was nice and knowledgable. Just as good as any other gem mine in the area.

We love gem mining at Great Foscoe. Our recent trip was our second visit and probably not our last. If there's a group of you, buy a bigger bucket to share. We're told your chances of getting some good stones increases with the larger buckets. It's great that they will go through your finds and separate the stones, so you... More

Guys were eager to take your money, set up your dirt to get you started, but not helpful after that. Very disappointed with our finds. Four of us visited many mines and this one did not come close to any of the others. We would not recommend this one.

We stopped here to mine for gems after enjoying a day at Grandfather mountain. We had never mined for gems and didn't know what to expect. We purchased a bucket for about $26.00. This was a good size for the three of us. We mined for about an hour and had great fun finding many gems. The guys were helpful... More

My nieces and nephews had a marvelous time playing in the muddy water and coming up with stones and beautiful rocks. Engaging, entertaining, and almost educational. The staff are friendly and helpful. It doesn't look like much as you drive by between Boone and Banner Elk, but it is worth a stop.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! The staff was amazing - so friendly and knowledgeable. They were fantastic with our young daughters. We spent $26.50 on the second smallest bucket, and it took our girls almost an hour to dig and sift through it. They had a blast! They both found lots of gems and were so... More

I had a blast with my sister digging those gems out of that huge bucket. The staff were so much fun chatting with us telling us what are stones were. They talked everything rock with us from faceting machines to how to wire wrap these beautiful gems! Thank you all for a lovely time!!
