I came on a misty and moody winter's day, but no wind and reasonably warm so comfortable for walking.

I parked at Bar da Praia (closed for winter) and walked up a reasonably clear marked path up to the Miradouro da Cardomama (which is also accessible via a gravel road that comes off the paved road to Bar da Praia).

From Miradouro da Cardomama I continued south along the ridge and then down to Castelejo restaurant (again, closed for winter). This section did not seem to be an official marked trail but there were reasonably clear pathways throughout. Worth doing too, as the view from the next headland south of Miradouro da Cardomama is arguably better than from the Miradouro.

From Castelejo I then walked back north to the car along the beach - note this would not be possible at higher tides, so check for low tide times.

Overall this walk took around an hour, with lots of photo stops.

It really is a spectacular piece of coast, with a series of cliffs dropping one after the other onto the wild beach. Well worth the walk.

Really atmospheric with stunning scenery, huge wide open spaces and incredible waves. Definitely worth visiting for a long walk. It was empty in November but I’m guessing the hugeness is a welcome relief in summer when many beaches are jam-packed.

This is a huge beach with wild waves, the sand was one of the best in Algarve and the place is huge. But very windy, amazing for photos and Instagram. A must in Algarve

I was a few years ago there and now again. It unfortunately changed to bad. At the time there was a real beach restaurant atmosphere where it was nice to sit and having a coffee. This year it was strange. All areas were restricted. I was not allowed to sit inside to get a drink, just when you eat a meal you could enter. I had to sit on the terasse. Very poor management now. What a shame.

First we drove to the viewpoint - when we looked down we quickly decided that it's the perfect place for an afternoon beach walk and drove all the way down to the beach (there's a parking onsite). The views are stunning on a bright day. The walk was fantastic. As you will see on the map - it's a perfect place for sunsets. The beach lovers should be satisfied.

Great walk with low tide, quite a lot of people for the end of the year but beach half empty. Mostly surfers. In December the beach bar was closed. Very clean, no trash left anywhere, the surf community takes care of their spots very well. Loads of dogs (we also had one, she had a blast) and kids. Long beach, great walk, beautiful cliffs. One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. Defo coming back.
