Diego jumped to the rescue when another guide in town let us down. Some fine birding, which William continued in excellent fashion out in the mangroves by boat and then even early Christmas day by car. Professional, expert and caring.
25 30 dollars per person get there early in the morning. Tours all day guys on sidewalk soliciting. Great experience. Lot of alligators. Nice birds and of course the pink water lagoon with thousands of flamingos

Yes Jessica, I'm a lady in my 60's and was there Jan 2017. I took both the water birding tour and the land tour on the wildlife reserve. I stayed two nights at a comfortable room rented by Diego of Rio lagartos tours, the local birding expert. The birding was great, and Diego recommended the best times of day for each tour. Meeting the friendly people of the quaint little town was a pleasure. I took the public bus from Cancun to get there, and felt very safe. It was 3.5hrs from Cancun to Tizimin, then change bus and another hour & a half to reach Rio Lagartos. The bus driver waited there and refused to leave me until a local gentleman had made contact with Diego's family. It was a very special experience for me and I recommend it highly.
