If coming by train, you'll have to get down at Kathgodam. Nothing very special but still a good place.

Low rating for tourism purpose otherwise its a neat and an important city. It is the closest railway station for many tourist places including Naintal, Almora, Ranikhet etc. Kathgodam is a small town with not much to see or do.

The main attraction of Kathgodam is Gaula Dam adjacent to Railway station. But photography is not allowed here. Apart from rainy season the dam remains dry. In rainy season its beauty is marvelous.

If you are planning to travel to some place from Kathgodam, it is better to stay in Bhimtal. You will get many hotels there. Hotel Devashish in Haldwani is a good hotel but it is in the city.
