Anand Bhavan was a delight due to its heritage and history. One goes through the house and gets a feel of history at India's early years of independence and before. The building is maintained so well as are the grounds !!
Well worth

For those interested in History, this is a must see place in Prayagraj or Allahabad. The house was built by Motilal Nehru where Jawaharlal Nehru was born. The museum is well maintained and the premises kept very clean. All the rooms with objects are well maintained as if someone is staying there even today. There is a huge lawn with rose garden. The Planetarium is also located in the large and vast premises. Overall wonderful experience.

Its quite green surroundings with lots of collections, memorabilia of Gandhi family. Well themed, designed and maintained. Great to see pics and memorabilia 100 years old. Reminiscent of old times and family legacy is nicely depicted. Worth a visit for relaxed and historical importance.

This is by far one of the most important houses during the Indian Independence movement. Many ideas and movements were born out of this house. The Nehru's lived a life of splendour and that can be seen even now as this house has been converted into a museum. The Swaraj Bhawan located next door built much later is also worth a visit. Definitely worth recommending even if you are not interested in the Indian Independence movement.

Worth watching. Few rare photographs of the Nehru family. The congress working commitee office. Indira Gandhi's wedding photos, room where she stayed. Mahathma Gandhi's stay. Dining articles, fans, lighting of the pre-independence era are all on display. Good books are for sale also.

The rooms are well preserved, giving an idea about the history making process when India gained independence.

It is ancestral house of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru –the first Prime minister of India, who gave initial boost to India’s progress. Purchased by his father Pt Moti Lal Nehru and then donated by Indira Gandhi to Jawaharlal Lal Nehru trust in1970, which converted it into the present day museum. I had been to Allahabad, many times but visited Anand –Bhawan for the first time. The building is not very big, but it had witnessed many of the greatest movement and planning for Indian freedom struggle, Topmost Indian personalities Like Mahatma Gandhi,Jawahar Lal Nehru, and many others use to congregate here and make plans for Swaraj .So old Anand Bhawan is known as Swaraj Bhawan.
It is located at a distance of about 3.5 Kms from the Allahabad Junction railway station .Its OPENING TIMEINGS are between 9 Am to 5 PM with weekly closing of Monday. On entering you have to pass through security check up. Just in front, is a big piece of stone with inscription on it .In front you’ll see a big and beautiful lawn with two paths around it. We took to right one and reached at the entrance .Building is a two-storied building painted in light grey and cream colours .Purchased Rs.10 ticket for viewing the first floor. Lower floor is free. Today was holiday, so groups of children were there with their escort teachers. In front we saw a place where Mahatma Gandhi ji use to lie down in open space. Then there was a library cum-meeting hall. On proceeding further, we saw personal items used by Pt Motilal Nehru,Jawahar Lal Nehru. Smt Indira Gandhi ji etc. All exhibits were covered by glass panels. Ground floor also has many exhibits used by Nehru family. Then we descended down through steps and went to see the Swaraj- bhawan. Here is a book store with many books regarding Gandhi ji and Nehru family and on some others. From here I purchased two books. Overall experience was very pleasant and informative about India’s freedom struggle. A must visit place of the Allahabad city.

What we studied about Nehru's in school books, all that we can recollect, visiting this historic, well preserved building. I felt as if I am walking in the house of my uncle who was great scholar, philosopher, freedom fighter, statesman , gentle ,noble and caring person! I am proud to be part of his family !
This is the feeling we get if know something about him ,otherwise we would like to know more about him in whose memory this building is preserved !
