This massive fort has been around since the 16th century and built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar to defend the strategic confluence of the three rivers. The bastions are absolutely massive. As others have mentioned, this is a functioning military building and the opening hours are extremely restricted. You find a giant Indian flag flying over the fort. The area around the fort is busy with an endless array of stalls for visitors to the Hanuman Temple and Sangram.

Had to stand in a long que for entry into the fort during Kumbh Mela. It was under renovation so could explore much of the fort. Main attraction is the "Patalpuri Mandir" and the
" Akshaya Vat".

In my experience of Prayagraj Sangam and Emperor Akbar Fort there is amazing place to feel relax in life.
Allahabad Fort is a splendid work of architecture that was built during the reign of Akbar, the Mughal Emperor in 1583. The marvellous structure is located on the banks of the confluence of the Rivers Ganga and Yamuna and is well-known for being the largest fort ever built by Akbar.

Don't get misled by what various sites, including that of UP Tourism, says anything about Prayagraj Fort, the details, timing of opening, etc.! The entire, repeat entire, Fort is under the control of Indian Army. They lead you through a corridor with 4 layers of 8 feet high fence, under CCTV surveillance and a heavy Police force, to let you see an Akshay Vat through a glass screen, that too is barricaded! And they even bar the entry from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm! Well, they are extremely punctual to open the gate at sharp 3:00 pm! It's another matter that they let you enter only after another 10 minutes! Avoid at all cost, unless you are at the gate when it's open, as you can access another Akshay Vat in the Patalpuri Temple complex in the Fort premises, at much closer range.

Akshay Vrich is one of the holiest tree in Allahabad located at the shore of the " Holy Ganges".

It was considered that your worship completes only after visit to Akshayavat after taking dip at Holy Ganges.

Once Lord Narayan flooded teh entire world during which only Akshayavat could be seen.

Even Lord Rama , Lakshmana and Sita Mata rested near the tree for 3 days .
