- Ajith SettyBengaluru, India2,034 contributionsWorld Famous Monument !!The entry ticket is 40/- for Indians and we can visit all the monuments with the same ticket. This is one of the monuments located inside the same premise with many other monuments. The list of monuments is as below (all within walking distance ) Krishna's butter ball Trimurti cave Ganesha ratha Arjuna's penance Pandavas Cave Krishna mandpam Other 2 places are located within 1-2 kms from this place. Pancha Rathas Shore Temple This is the one of the monuments which is famous all over the world. It's a scientific wonder about how such a huge rock is standing in a particular angle with minimum support. So if you are travelling in a 4 wheeler, park the vehicle near this place and you can cover all the major places by walk.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 October 2023
- Ria1104Kolkata (Calcutta), India674 contributionsNice Place for Hangout at SunsetIt is a beautiful place where one can relax during the sunset. The main rock which is depicted as Krishna's Butter Ball, basically balances itself miraculously on the slope of a hillock. People were trying to push the rock out of fun but the rock stood immovable. There are also some huge rocks around which serves as excellent frames for some snaps. This is a good place to chill during the sunset in Mababalipuram.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2023
- MaithiliSaveMumbai, India201 contributionsWorth visitIt’s worth visiting this place. It is one of the monuments in Mahabalipuram. It’s amazing to see this huge rock on the slope. There is one temple nearby. Avoid public holidays. It was too crowded when we visited on local festival public holiday. We couldn’t take proper pictures. Do hire a guide to know the history and significance of it. There are government authorized guides available. It will take around 30 mins to see this place. Entry fee is just Rs40 which is for all monuments nearby.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 February 2024

The security guards who are posted there at the historic sites have only one job, check tickets. There are absolutely no signboards in this location, no information available for tourists. You will just be lost in this place without any clue, that too in a place where everyone is a scamster and everything is a scam. Moreover, to my horror, what I have seen is that the guards allow people selling fruits, etc inside just next to this site (of course, after collecting money) and the sellers just dump their waste/garbage inside this so-called world heritage site!! I have witnessed this.
Mamallapuram is a place where people cares only about money. I have never seen such people anywhere else. They are destroying/ruining such a historic place. Also, an auto (tuk-tuk) charges INR 150 for 1 km ride (actual cost around INR 30). All will be trying to loot you

Krishnas Butterball now also closed off and included in the entrance fee of 600 Rps!!! for foreigners only of course. No more
fun to come here and hang out with the locals for sunset by the rocks. I come here since 1995, but this now was the last time
because the attraction was to explore the rock area and sit and watch. Now only the dirty beach is open. Restaurants, some are too expensive, fish portions are too small and some tailors are asking very high prices for cheaply made shirts and pants.

There are a few local attractions in the same vicinity (walkable distance)- Krishna's Butterball; Arjuna's Penance and the Varaha temples. Due to this, it is worth visiting the place and spending some time. Hiring a local guide is a good option to get a better understanding of the history of the place.
Krishna's butter ball is basically a rocky mountain and the main attraction here is a big rock that seems to be oddly balanced on a sloppy surface. The rock might seem like it might roll down any time, but apparently it has remained in that position for ages. Its a unique sight and offers some nice picture opportunities.

This was a place on my checklist for a long time and I was finally able to visit it. The rock is special because till date no one knows its origin and neither has anybody been able to move it from its place. It is an old rock balanced in a tilted position. The British had tried to move the ball using seven elephants but they failed to move it from its position.

A natural marvel where a huge boulder is balancing itself on an inclined slope. The slope through which one can reach the ball is quite slippery especially if it’s raining however one needs to see it to believe in the marvel. I would also recommend seeing all monuments in the complex as it has several hidden gems.

It is a surprise to see this rock...everytime you may feel that it is just to slide down but it is there from years. Good place but guides take over price (1200 INR ) for five places of Mahabalipuram and gives haphazard explanation. Place is worth to visit
