I recommend you to travel with your own private vehicle. You can't rely on public transport systems ( auto ,bus, etc) . Their is a camp side near by you can enjoy camping as well. They won't allow you near the dam but , their are many beautiful locations to visit and one can feel close to nature . You should travel ones .

Gadeshwar Dam is popular place in Monsoon, Actually it is good picnic place too.It was not listed place on Tripadvisor. That's why I listed it, as it is good place for weekend trip.
I have visited this site in 1st of Dec 2014 in weekend. Dam was having good amount of water, you can see pictures.
This place is recommended for single day tour, for Family , Friends, students all natures lovers.
It was afternoon, when we arrived at gadeshwar dam. We saw many groups were preparing own food near by dam , they got all required things to prepare food and many of them were swimming in Dam.
Many families, got packed food and enjoying this environment.
I hope everybody will like this place.
This place is hardly 15 to 20 km from Panvel.
Directions - Drive Right from McDonalds Kalamboli towards Panvel, Then you will reach to Panvel city, take a left turn from petrol pump towards old panvel, If required, ask the way to Nere village or Panvel Matheran Road, Once you have taken matheran road , it is straight road till Nere village , you can see townships like Arihant Aaram ( It means you are on correct road), Road is not so good not so bad, After Arihant Aaram, you will reach to Mahalaxmi Nagar, Nere Village ( you can locate it on Google map, from here it is tough to locate further map , follow directions). From Mahalaxmi nagar, take left or ask Gadeshwar Temple , It is only 3-4 km from Nere Village - Mahalaxmi Nagar Project.
Once you reach Gadeshwar Temple, on same road 2 km ahead you will see Gadeshwar Dam on left side. This road is known as Matheran Road or Dudhani Road. Since local buses run upto Dudhani.

Important Recommendations -
1. Kindly carry, all food stuffs and enough water for yourself.
2. If you are going to spend time near Dam, you can take some sports stuff for enjoyment.
3. In case , you want to do swimming, carry all belongings and take prior permission from near by attendants. ( As per rule, they will not allow for swimming, but i personally saw many people swimming)
4. Take something, like bedsheet or some mat for sitting purpose.
5, Near by no tea stall , no water and no food stall. All you can find near by 4 km near Gadeshwar temple.
6. Plan to leave before 5 :30 pm or 6 pm.
7. No FEE

This is a great place for a one-day picnic / family outing. We went their in winter and the view from the dam was really beautiful. There is a nice and neat place in front of the guards' cabin where you can cook your food (take permission from the guards beforehand, but they did not mind when we were there).

Important pointers:
1. There is absolutely nothing available nearby. If you are going for a picnic, you should be carrying everything with you. This includes drinking water.
2. Do not plan to stay beyond sunset. It's not lit well enough.

Best Place around the city to visit in the morning with friends/families” thats how I can describe this beautiful place in a one sentence.

Its a Dam which is almost 7 km from Panvel railway station and still very quit and natural place to be with.

How to reach
you can drive from Panvel station to Gadeshwar Dam which will take approximately 30 mins.
One can also get ST bus from Panvel ST depot. Bus are available at the interval of 1 hour below is time table of ST bus.

Once you reach, you’ll find trees planted at the gate of the Dam.
Though you cannot go till another end of the dam as it is not allowed due to security reasons, you”ll truly fall in love with the views that you will see through the time of sunrise.
You can hangout around the dam as it covers lot of area where you can have fun!

You”ll get some Awesome outdoor clicks here for sure as dam is built in front of Matheran hills. There are lots of activities that you can do to spend time with your friend and families.

You can get a return bus from Gate of the dam to reach Panvel station

Few things that you need to remember are

There is nothing that you can get to eat or drink not even water better you carry all the things that you need. Do not stay in there for long time after sunset
There is no fees to enter the premiseSwimming is not allowed inside dam.

A good picnic spot. Is about an hour's drive from Vashi. The road is good and hasslefree. The entire area is green and scenic. The entry to the dam is restricted. But there's a spot nearby where one can go and play in the flowing water. It's an ideal place to visit in the rains. A good 2-3 hours can be spent there.

The dam is closed for outsiders for security reasons but still you can enjoy the place from a little far from dam. In rainy season the nature's beauty is indescribable and awesome

A epic view with full of Greenery every where basically it is a water reservoir where water is stored in the DAM, and is supplied to home and for other use after Filtering process. You can admire the beauty of Mountain and lake. There is not much to see but this place will take you one step closer toward Nature. Evening and morning is the the best time to visit this place and this Dam becomes more Wonderful during Monsoon season.

The small Dam near Panvel, can be easily reached from Panvel Bus Station, about 8 km away. It has a small river which reaches the village of Dudhani. The picturesque surroundings especially paddy fields and greenery makes it a trekkers destination.
