My wife and I wanted to visit this ancient village as recommended by an old edition Lonely Planet. Although we appreciated that there were not many tourists (end of July to early August tourist season) and enjoyed our visit we felt that the village was on a decline in terms local and international tourism. Only a small portion of shops was open on the famous Lishui Jie, and you have to go outside the old village to find a place to stay as the guest houses inside the old village are not suitable for us. However you can visit this village on a day trip from Wenzhou.

Yántóu (岩头) is located in Fènghuà (奉化) a district in the north of Zhejiang Province, near Ningbo City, China.

Yantou offers River Rafting and Ancient Celebrities relating to Mao Zedong. It is the home of Máo Fúméi (毛福梅), first wife of Chiang Kai-Shek (蔣介石) and parents of Chiang Ching-Guo (蔣經國).

Here at Yantou Ancient Stone Village you can raft the river in the morning and explore the ancient stone buildings in the afternoon. Most of which were constructed in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and are still in use today.
