We travelled east around the Bay from Whakatane on a Saturday and were recommended to this museum, which was open in the afternoon when much else in the town was closed. A very friendly volunteer gave us a short overview then we explored the exhibits....More

So much to see and soak up. You'll want to reserve at least two hours to really appreciate all the exhibits. Upstairs is magic!

Loved the friendly chat with the staff and what a great museum. Didn't go any further than the bottom floor because I was reading everything and ran out of time. Will have to come back next summer to see more about the history of the...More

Staff were very helpful here. An excellent use of a key building in the Main Street. Museum has a great second hand shop attached as a fundraiser. What a great idea. The displays were easy to see and give a good idea of past history.

What an interesting place to visit. History at it's best, with so many varied exhibits it caters for everyone. You need to visit lots of times to take it all in.
