I've had planned to travel the old Motu Road for over twenty years and finally got around to do this with Murray and Lilian on a beautiful summers day. The road is mainly shingle and in places narrow, but well constructed and quite doable in a standard car. The trip features an array of country sides and bush / river... More

Had a great 4WD trip over the Motu Road from Gisborne to Opotiki. Took our time and thorroughly enjoyed the native bush, amazing view from the high lookout points. Truly isolated, beautiful terrain. Road a bit of a goat track but fine in a 4WD. Enjoyed a goumet picnic at one of the cyle shelter rest stops.

This is truly an amazing set of trails. Well marked and maintained there is something for every level of rider or hiker along these trails. They can be done in part or total taking several days.

We have ridden this trail a number of times, don't under estimate the distance! The Pakihi trail is awesome but we noticed that some of the older and younger riders had trouble with "trail etiquette". Great day out, the trails can be ridden for either Opotiki via the Dunes trail (very nice easy beach trail riding) and then onto Motu... More

Took our van out for a day and drove the Motu Road. Rain was terrible and the road was in bad and bumpy condition. Didn't stop us from having a great time, though. Some amazing viewpoint and landscapes. We were the only vehicle for miles and miles, truly felt like riding through a jungle. A small landslip near the end... More

If you want a good adrenaline rush then bike the Old Motu Coach Road- although I only did a portion it was fantastic and scary at the same time. Also as a couple we cycled the Motu Dunes Trail into opotiki and return- really good track and a pleasant way to cycle along the beachside.

this road is not for the faint hearted, BUT it is just stunning, rolling hills, tumbling rivers, bird life ect ect Must be driven by everybody at least once while in the area.

Awesome trails from the Tirohanga Camp Ground into Opotiki. Over the sand dunes and along the water front. It was spectacular.

We did the 'loop' trail over 3 days - stayed at Toatoa and Riverside Lodge. The trail was awesome and accommodation at both places brilliant. Special thanks to Bob and Maxine Crowley (Toatoa) and Paul at Riverside Lodge for making our stay so enjoyable

I rode the Pakihi Track using the excellent shuttle service provided by John and Ngaio at Motu Trails- a beautiful 90 minute drive along a river gorge takes you to the start point of a delightful 8 ilm easy dirt road ride to the start of the trail. The trail is "easy" from a fitness perspective as it's almost all... More
